As a remote worker, a stable internet connection is your top priority, and fortunately, Cape Town does reasonably well in this regard. Most coworking spaces and cafes offer reliable Wi-Fi, but it is smart to always have a backup on hand. An eSIM is ideal for this: you simply download it to your phone at home, and as soon as you land in Cape Town, you are online immediately. No hassle searching for a local SIM card at the airport, and no surprises with roaming charges from your Dutch provider.
With an eSIM, you also have a safety net for those times when the Wi-Fi in a café or coworking space is disappointing; that happens occasionally in Cape Town as well. A provider we think is great is SimWallet from Odido (which works in more than 140 countries and requires no subscription). When making your choice, pay attention to the data bundle, the validity, and whether you can activate a hotspot, so that you can continue working on the go or on location.
When we discovered this clubhouse where co-working and yoga are included in the membership, we jumped for joy. And you can take that literally: Light House is located on a rooftop terrace on Breestraat with, yes, a swimming pool. A pool with a view of Signal Hill, no less. You get the idea: all the thumbs-up boxes are easily checked here for a few hours of work, a yoga session in between, and a refreshing dip during the summer months.
But we'd be selling Light House short if we considered it just a nice place to open your laptop. It's a holistic hub for work, relaxation, and personal growth. A bright space with serene workspaces, space for focus and connection, and a sense of community. There's an in-house bar with delicious coffee, matcha, and other focus-focused drinks. Just like fresh granola bowls and healthy muffins or date balls. Besides co-working, Light House is also a kind of mini-retreat, with regular workshops and sessions such as breathing exercises, meditation, movement, and of course, yoga. And yes, they organize aerial yoga (for beginners!).
Remote working on locks of coffee? You're not the first. And so a good coffee shop is you go to. Bootlegger is a small, local chain that can be found in several locations around the city, and they are all good!
- Delicious (gluten-free) baked goods (chocolate chip cookies and patel de natas) and very tasty falafel wraps.
- Chain (so a bit less cozy than the cafes), but you can find it everywhere on the corner in Cape Town, so it's always handy when your laptop is empty.
- Always assured of good WiFi and sockets
Is sympathetic Stellsky in the heart of Cape Town, that much is certain. And further? You also have delicious banana bread and coffee for 40 rand (approximately 2.10 euros) - a thief of your own wallet if you don't. You can sit in the courtyard (in the shade, because you have a laptop) and still enjoy being outside. The service is more than friendly, there are trendy bicycles as decor, there is a lot of greenery (plants are everywhere). Loadshedding in focus? Then the power goes off at various places in the city. When the loadshedding has arrived at Stellski, there is WiFi (nice because that is not the case everywhere), but no coffee.
Sometimes, just sometimes, you just have to work. work In Cape Town we call that.. Lucky us That there are places like Bumbuntu, a coworking space in a beautiful Victorian house in Tamboerskloof. Founded by Dutch woman Emmelie Steentjes, who has lived in Cape Town for years, it's all about community: working alongside people who aren't strangers, but colleagues. Freelancers, entrepreneurs, and remote workers come together here to grow, share ideas, and, above all, have fun.
What you get: super-fast Wi-Fi (300+ MBPS), complimentary coffee, tea, and milk or oat milk, private phone booths, and meeting rooms. You can stay for half a day or a full day, and in the evenings or on weekends, the space transforms into a charming venue for workshops, launches, private dinners, birthdays, or baby showers.
Forever hip & happening, The Strangers Club in the Green Point neighborhood. Not surprising: it is very cozy, it is light and it is beautiful. There is a nice shop where you can do some shopping during your break (although pricey) and the nutty acai bowl is highly recommended.
Is it the perfect place to work all day? Meh. There is WiFi for 90 minutes and there are no charging points: so charge your laptop in advance! Nice for the morning, for example, in a spot inside or outside the business, and then on to another tent.
Kanela The Seapoint district does this better: here you have plenty of charging stations for your laptop indoors, and you can also sit outside: in the courtyard around a fountain. Cozy. You can't work on coffee alone: here you can get the best hot banana bread with chocolate in town. And there are many other tasty, healthy baked goods. Also have a cappuccino kanèla, cappuccino with a special touch: cinnamon.
Naked in the Seapoint district specializes in (specialty) coffee. You can immediately be sure that you are assured of that good cup of coffee (and they have Oatly oat milk!). In any case, you get value for your money here: there is a varied menu and the portions are large. Nutella lovers are in the right place here: 'decorate in hot chocolate is home-made nutella: both hot and cold chocolate are on the menu. There are also many charging points and the seats are nice: good enough to sit on all day. Downside? Yes, the music is a bit too loud.
A big tip is Butter, a cozy bistro bar known for its c Breakfast dishes, all day long. With, yes, butter, lots of butter. And anything you make with butter is delicious, as we learned at a young age (even if you just stick it on your hips – no worries, it's vacation!). You'll find Butter on Loop Street and you'll instantly recognize it by its cozy indoor and outdoor seating, perfect for brunch, work, or a casual get-together. meeting point. Tips? Yes! The Butter Burger and creative cocktails like the Butter White Russian.
Nourish'd belongs to Neighbourgood, a hostel where many remote workers "live." There are plenty of desks inside and outside, and practically everyone here works during the day. There's a small pool where you can take a dip during your break. Loungers are arranged around the pool, and here too, clever consideration has been given to the remote workers: there's a shelter with a table where you can work comfortably. People are scattered around in the lounge chairs working, and nothing is too much trouble here, which makes the vibe it's just very relaxed. There is a very extensive menu of acai bowls (boobalicious with almond butter!) and wraps/salads (nori sushi wrap also great), but – surprise – you can also bring your own food! Good for the wallet, although it is of course nice if you order something...
Are you looking for something in the atmosphere of Saint Jean in Amsterdam? Then you can go Paulines in Seapoint. The small, hip coffee bar with very good ones locally roasted coffee also serves gluten-free and vegan pastries such as ferrero rocher, and cardamom balls (which you have to order on time because they fly over the counter) and cinnamon buns. In the afternoon there are varying fresh salads, sourdough toast and toasties. The interior is minimalist, but warm with lots of wood and earthy colors, the lounge music is relaxed and you can refill filtered cold sparkling and still water free of charge all day long. Fine! There's a handsome shop next door, from the same owners, for a bit of Paulines for the home.
With stately mansions to your left and right, a tricky intersection ahead, and Table Mountain in the distance, you're in the central Gardens district. Yet, the corner where the popular The Power & The Glory is located was long considered a bit dodgy. These days, it's a good place to be: a taco stand, a decent hotel (Cloud 9, a tad overpriced and posh for our taste, though the rooftop terrace with a small pool and Table Mountain views is lovely), and a wine bar. The open windows of The Power & The Glory are always filled with people looking in, out, or at each other, enjoying (depending on the time) coffee, wine, or beer. It's cozy, you can see it from afar. You order at the bar, which works perfectly: the café is a place where you can hang out for a long time, with a laptop or book if you're solo. The place may seem small, but there's an extra section in the back. Looking for the Cape cool kids? Here they hang out. A new addition to this corner is a deli with fresh, tasty treats for on the go. You can just as easily open your laptop for a few hours of work with an iced coffee at one of the small tables outside. Open 7 days a week, from 7:00 AM to 11:00 PM. And on the right… the ice cream shop!
A favorite in one of our favorite areas of Cape Town, central Gardens. TheLadder is a bright space with lots of hanging plants, small tables in a predominantly white interior - everything is a bit arty (you can buy nice paintings made of watercolor) without it becoming too much. Important: there are super tasty smoothies and coffee with macadamia milk! More importantly, the WiFi is stable and fast, and there are plenty of electrical outlets. Also nice, not for remote workers, but for moms and dads: there is a play corner for kids.
Ground Art Café is a trendy little coffee shop with damnnn good coffee & pastries. Perfect place to start your (work) day. And if you're looking for inspiration – the name says it all: cozy paintings everywhere.
For those hip Bali vibes (lots of wood and wicker in the interior) you can go to The Conscious Kitchen. There is a shop with scented candles, clothing, jewelry, trendy hats, etc. Not good of course, because it is very distracting... But still. What is also distracting is Conscious Kitchen. The name says it all: here's one healthy and a super tasty menu (the summer rolls are a must try), fresh smoothies and acai bowls. There are hanging chairs at the bar where you can really enjoy the view digital nomad life have finished while you are working on it. If hanging is too much for you, sit down on one of the nice wide chairs with cushions at the very long oak table: hello living room feeling. Nice work indeed.
