Out of reach in Drenthe: this is how you really recharge

Drenthe is the place where you can do that, and with the new Out of Reach hiking trails You experience nature in a surprising way. We went away for a weekend and came back with a clear head, a full stomach, and a few really good addresses.

Marketing Drenthe, Staatsbosbeheer, and Recreatieschap Drenthe have developed four new walking routes that invite you to slow down. Not by doing less, but by being more mindful. Along the routes, you will find small questions and tasks that help you pause. Along the way, you will come across a Zinzitter: a special place to sit for a moment and reflect. Do you want to fully offline Going? At the starting point, you can leave your phone in a locker. While you charge in nature, your battery charges there too.

There are four routes available: Spier (6 km), Noordsche Veld (6 km), Drouwen (9 km), and Diever (7 km). We walked the route in Diever, a 7-kilometer walk through the vast forests of Drents-Friese Wold National Park. The route takes you past tall trees, sand drifts, and serene vistas. Along the way, short questions and reflections invite you to consciously pause and appreciate your surroundings. With surprisingly simple exercises, you will notice how differently you look at your surroundings when you truly stop to reflect. Fun to do, especially as a warm-up for a walk.

Good hiking starts with a good lunch. We got ours at Brasserie PUUR in Diever, in a unique location between village and forest. PUUR is a social enterprise where people facing barriers to employment are given the opportunity to develop themselves. A lovely place to start the day before heading into nature.

The culinary highlight of the weekend. Fun in Havelte is a restaurant where refined French cooking techniques are combined with Mediterranean and Asian influences, with regional products and ingredients from their own vegetable garden playing a leading role.
