All the tastiest artisanal bakers in Amsterdam
Great craft, that baker's profession - especially when we as consumers always expect better things. For example, a casino white often no longer meets the need (although it can be tasty with a croquette on top or a dollop of chocolate spread). But no, sourdough bread is kind of the new norm and we prefer it with a juicy inside and a crispy crust (demanding as we are). Here are the best bakers in Amsterdam!
Oh and while we're at it. We have too the nicest pastry shops in Amsterdam listed!
Previously, Fort Negen's main branch was located in Bakkerij mama in Zwanenburg, and from day 1 it was considered one of the best, tastiest sourdough bakeries in Amsterdam (and a bit of money there). Nowadays, Fort Negen is located at Jan Evertsenstraat 31, and it really can't be missed there, thanks to the great sandwich bar. Repeat: Not to be missed. The breads are great, but it's especially the creative rolls that score high: the brioche cheese soufflé is really 'worth the hype'. But don't miss the filled croissants, or the oatmeal cookies, and don't forget the delicious gingerbread.
At Bakkerij Mas, the breads fly off the counter so much that bakery hit number one, a second location soon followed: Mas Atelier on Pretoriusstraat is a fact. The old Rumbaba building met the requirements exactly and after a small renovation, the corner building now functions as Mas Atelier.
Here you can buy, besides a few loaves of bread, especially delicious pastries. Croissants in all shapes and sizes. Cheese, chocolate, double chocolate and the classic, as MAS bakes them like no other.
There is also room for coffee or tea here to go. This way you are ready to go and can get your hot drink (and snacks) at 9am.
Mas Atelier, Pretoriusstraat 33, Amsterdam
Sourdough bread and pastries. To take away or to nibble on on a stool in the sun. Of course, you can also sit inside with a cup of coffee. And if you really go all out, you can take a nice coffee table book home with you. Louf is by the men of Binnenvisser, Cornerstore and Twee Prinsen - if that rings a bell (read: marketing we fleekThe bakery opened a second and a third location: louf oud-west was the first, Bilderdijkstraat 38, then came louf de pijp, Nicolaas Berchemstraat 4 and finally louf is now also in Westerpark, De Wittenkade 96
The people behind restaurant As opened the city bakery in East, in a side street of the Czaar Peterstraat. In addition to breads, you can also find special sweets that vary daily (hello donuts from Pension Homeland!). There are also all kinds of fresh products that are produced locally. City bakery As for all your shopping!
Oh! And don't forget Olaf Brood at the Dappermarkt!
We never have enough treats and sweets. And we will never get enough of all the new catering establishments that dedicate themselves to this. So too Anook Bakehouse, a new pastry in the Pijp. You will find the most beautiful baked goods there, it's almost a shame to eat them. But as soon as you take a bite, you immediately know where the statement 'Love goes through the stomach' comes from. All the goodies are available from Tuesday to Sunday and everything is made from sustainable en organic ingredients. And yes, it is just as delicious as it sounds.
The building in question in the Wolfstraat has known many (many) names (even things that for convenience had no name and were indicated by the house number...) but something tells us that Bakery Wolf here to stay is. Previously, Bakery Wolf was alone to go, but there are also lovely seats in front of the bakery. But... Did you know that the top baker of Morgen & Mees works hard to bake the best breads, croissants and pastries and shows this off in the display case.
At Bakery wolf you can go for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We like it, because we prefer to sit here all day.
You may have had enough of all those French bakeries with croissants and sourdough bread, but not us. The new Farine Boulangerie & Café in Bos en Lommer is more than welcome. At this bakery you can go for a nice cup of coffee with pastries or a slice of sourdough bread. They are open from Thursday to Sunday and, in addition to the familiar stools in all bakeries, also have room for you and your laptop at larger tables.
Suddenly you see sourdough bakeries springing up everywhere. De Amsterdamse Pijp was still in need of a nice craft tent and tádá; there was a sourdough bakery Mater. At Mater you can of course get loads of loaves of bread, nice and large, good in taste and with a crispy crust. But also for small treats: croissants, focaccias, cookies (choco chip with a little salt, delicious!), oh and shortbread to die for.

Maritozzo, Bomboloni, Veneziana – new terms for city dwellers in Amsterdam, but not for Salvo. Bakery, or better: Bakehouse Salvo Amsterdam to be precise. What started as a lockdown-project, resulted in a fantastic shop with café. Owner Salvo surprises you with his bakehouse on the Tweede Hugo de Grootstraat and is rightly the newest sweet addition to Amsterdam-West.
Please note: Salvo is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
Welcome Grams! Chief Maxime Papin finally chose to settle in our beloved Amsterdam after learning everything in both New York if it heavenly Paris. Formed by baking delicacies with his mother, he basically makes French creations. These are anything but average because they have a Key or get Maxime on board so that the description immediately tempts you to want to try them. Only one way to find out, ha!
We love the Baker's shop in South. Why? Because it is cozy, because the service is always good, you are looked at with love and because the business has a kind of village feeling in the big city (partly because of the regular nice guests who come for the same recipe every week) . What do they have here? Scones and cake, yes, but don't forget those other delicious dishes: toasted sandwiches of the day, which are always delicious, surprising and extremely generously topped. Or the salads, which we really can't get enough of. Quickly to the Roelof Hartstraat everyone!
The sympathetic Rise Bakery can be found 'normally' on the Albert Cuypstraat in De Pijp in Amsterdam. A hidden top spot. At Rise Bakery you can get your bread and pastries supply. Think of almond croissants, tartlets but also delicious classical ones pain au chocolat. And of course they also have a wide range of delicious sourdough breads here.

We, here at Barts Boekje, 'know' Lard mainly from his work for advertising and concept agency Natwerk. We've already said something about that here, because the Natwerk types often have the best ideas. This is also the case here, although the next lockdown success has nothing (not really) to do with Natwerk ('not really' because Lard is clearly good at promoting 'things') but with Lard's baking skills. And those of his mother. It goes like this: you take a pandemic, you stay home, you have to do something and voila: you bake the best sourdough bread in town. In a nutshell; it certainly took a bit more effort. What you should know is that Lard's story is just as delicious as his bread and his mother's cakes. That escalated quickly: fast forward to 2025 and the Kometenbroodcafé on the NDSM wharf is one of our favorite places in the city.

Bread from Crisps for non-Amsterdam residents as well
Crisp, the supermarket app for cracking fresh food, you know them, right? They also have connections with several good ones bakeries. Jordy's is one of those. Delicious, fresh and crispy bread, delivered straight to your home.
