Barts Best of Antwerp by buddy Emma
What should you do with that information? Well, you can already feel the mood hanging: from our very beloved (and often visited, but now with the baby a little less - booh) Antwerp she will look for the nicest, best, most beautiful and tastiest places in the city for your Barts Boekje. Take a photo of them and give them tips here, on the site. So let's go local. From today onwards, regularly on the site. You're welcome, too Emma.
Coffee First, of course, and in Antwerp in Cafènation it is a household name, to say the least. The first location of the coffee roasters was in 'the city', on the Mechelsesteenweg. Nice and inconspicuous and not at all a place that tourists rushed towards. The young, coffee-loving Antwerp residents, however… Right. That one. And how. As a result, Cafenation quickly became a household name, the insta-galore was on and an opening followed in our own Amsterdam. Just as good coffee, just as casually cool. But even more fun is Cafènation (yes, the dash on the e goes that way) now that there is a coffee joint in the young PAKT, an industrial area on the edge of the city (keep an eye on PAKT!).
Cafènation now has its headquarters here. And immediately a new, spacious coffee shop. There is light, lots of light, there are sandwiches, croissants and sweet cakes and well, it is simply not to be missed. Provided you are a coffee lover and don't want to go the usual Antwerp route.
I myself have already praised Monique Stam's shop here on the site and fortunately there are more people who appreciate the slightly hysterical but yet oh so fantastically well-balanced taste of the Flemish Monique.
The shop on the island (just cross the windy bridge at the MAS museum and there you will find the Monique Stam shop on the left. A bit hidden, not to be missed). There are clothing items and accessories and the whole thing screams Miami vice meets Marrakech meets your best gay friend – what's not to love – but it is especially the furniture, the priceless furniture, that makes our mouths water. There is a golden lamp (which everyone loves) with feathers for which you can pay a few thousand euros. Just too expensive. There is a semi-circular sofa that I have tried to hide under my coat and there are rugs that are beautiful and could hang on the wall. Fortunately, there are also trinkets that you can take home in exchange for a little money so that you still have something of Monique. Phew.
Also don't miss: 6 x new in Antwerp
Let's join hands for the new Curry Club aka Mission Massala! On the Dendermondestraat, also so nice and out of the way for Antwerp day visitors and therefore completely owned by the Antwerp locals, just outside the 't Zuid district (or is it still 't Zuid officially?) but close to favorites such as Butchers Coffee (yeah, read here) and De Walvis (read below) opened the Indian Streed Food restaurant. The business has been open since March and that didn't just happen. No, Mission Masala has fully earned its right to exist after two successful food trucks. The hit was a big hit, the friends and fan club grew and so London foodie Pavan and Antwerp DJ Tim opened their own restaurant. Voila.
It is a particularly good idea to have a drink at De Walvis before enjoying spicy Indian food.
As mentioned above, the location of De Walvis is outside the baths, so there is room for a nice terrace and the atmosphere is always friendly and the people are good and pleasant. In fact: I think it is the nicest terrace in Antwerp, in a pretty nice spot under the trees. Drinks, yes, but De Walvis is actually a café restaurant for the whole day, from morning coffee to evening snack. Still not left satisfied. Tip? Have a round of Flatbreads!
Another round of coffee? Back to Het Eilandje! At the end of last year, an ex-employee of Cafenation opened Black & Yellow Coffee almost directly opposite Monique Stam. Tipperdetip. Read more: Black & Yellow
