BEIRUTI: LEBANIAN IN THE HEART OF GHENT
Fans of Lebanese cuisine: pay attention! This year, a gem of a Lebanese restaurant, Beiruti, opened in Ghent, less than fifty meters from the famous (and quiet in Amsterdam terms) Veldstraat. The best of Lebanon in the heart of Ghent. What more does a person need?
Owner Nehme grew up in Lebanon. He discovered the richness of Lebanese cuisine during the daily walk home from school with his brother. In Bliss Street they were always amazed at all the goodies that the shops and restaurants had to offer. From those wonderful memories of his youth in Lebanon, Nehme takes you on a journey in Beiruti through the Lebanese culinary heritage, through a mix of street food and restaurant-level dishes in which you immediately taste the love for his roots. If you eat at Beiruti you will almost see the streets of Beirut come to life in the heart of Ghent.
At Beiruti you can enjoy a quick bite, take-away or an extensive dinner on the first floor. You always start in the basement, where the most difficult assignment of the day awaits you. Choosing between all the goodies that Nehme and his team have on offer is guaranteed to make your choice stress reach unprecedented heights. At the buffet you can choose between cold mezze, an extensive selection of appetizers and salads. Think tabbouleh, halloumi and fatoush, with the tastiest hummus and Labneh on the side.
Step two in the Beiruti adventure is Teta cuisine, where you will discover traditional Lebanese dishes as Nehme's grandmother once made them. The last stop is the Mana'eesh shop where the smell of stone-baked flatbread greets you. You can then eat all those delicacies at one of the tables downstairs or in the cozy city garden, or in the restaurant on the first floor. There you will enjoy a real Lebanese gourmet dining experience, a must for foodies and adventurers looking for true Lebanese authenticity.

Don't just say restaurant to Beiruti's first floor because the unique experience there goes beyond the traditional restaurant concept. It feels a bit like eating in someone's living room, but one with beautiful high ceilings and orange and blue velvet sofas. Are you coming in a group? Then try to reserve the large round table and imagine yourself in a Lebanese paradise. To enhance the home dining feeling, there is no menu here either, so you can make your own selection downstairs or be surprised by the chef's menu. In no time the table will be full of deliciously smelling plates and bowls and Lebanon will suddenly be surprisingly close.
