Pillows Grand Boutique Hotel Reylof, Ghent
De Reylof is a luxurious mansion where modern design and a Louis XIV interior go hand in hand (note the playful paintings in café LOF).
The feeling of coming home to a hotel, then you know everything is going well. And that's it at Pillows Grand Boutique Hotel Reylof in Ghent. There is a beautiful courtyard, the interior is contemporary and timeless at the same time and you are just outside the historic center of Ghent.
Olivier de Reylof is the name of the man who left Amsterdam for Ghent at a young age (we get why). Saddled with a great love for literature, a Latin collection of poems was published in 1711. So? Well, it was so popular that a mansion could be bought after the publication of the collection of poems. The house that was already there was razed to the ground and voila: Hotel Reylof is a fact. No hotel yet, just the French name for a noble home, but hey: maybe they secretly saw it coming. Now is Boutique Hotel Reylof Fortunately, it is a hotel with many baroque style elements and other beautiful things from Olivier's time.
You will find both the gastronomic restaurant there LOF, the bistro Olivier Le Petit Bistro and the cafe LOF. And the swimming pool, that swimming pool is actually a wellness pool.
Location, location, location
Pillows Grand Boutique Hotel Reylof is only 500 meters away from the old town, so you won't actually have time if you only go for a weekend. The River Leie meanders through the city a few streets further, St. Bavo's Cathedral is a ten-minute stroll away and you can get a coffee at the Paard van Troje. A very nice bookstore with good coffee and something tasty. When the sun shines, rent a boat to explore the canals of Ghent or relax in the courtyard of the Reylof.
The eye wants something too
Many baroque style elements, an impressive spiral staircase, yet all the luxury you would expect of this time. De Reylof is a luxurious mansion where modern design and a Louis XIV interior go hand in hand (note the playful paintings in café LOF). Lots, lots, of light, every shade of white you can imagine (except for the spiral staircase: that is a combination of almost black wood and earth-toned marble walls). The former coach entrance and the coach house can still be admired, the Meeting rooms are spacious with lots of light, rooms as well. The hotel exudes peace and luxury in a contemporary way while retaining all the details of the past.
Keffers & Koters
Unfortunately, pets are not welcome, but hey, that makes climbing the medieval Belfry Tower a lot easier. Just bring your kids (or not, because this is also the ultimate no-hassle-just-things-for-myself place)
