Bart's best of: Cala Llonga Ibiza
Oh! We're going to Ibiza! Not to the Ibiza where everyone goes, but to a part of Ibiza that is still relatively relaxed. Cala Llonga is the name, actually a beach, but it is also the name of a small village that is located around that beach. This is Barts best of: Cala Llonga Ibiza.
(Extra fun: from Cala Llonga Ibiza the ferry goes to Formentera! Skip the awful - oh so busy - harbour in Ibiza town, but get on the ferry from the idyllic jetty on the beach of Cala Llonga)
Good, better, best. Do you want best of, then you get best of. The Mondrian Hotel is one of those hotels that has it all. Three restaurants (more on that later), multiple pools, yoga and pilates classes, and a fitness center. The interior is too beautiful to be mentioned in a summary. Lots of organic shapes in spaces with beige walls, ceilings, and floors. No 50 shades of beige, but one shade of beige that is carried through everywhere and was complemented with warm rusty shades. Every room has a balcony or terrace so you can catch every ray of sunshine. Do you want the entire hotel for yourself? That is also possible, but that will cost at least €170.000. Hurts.
Next to the Mondrian there is another large hotel: Hyde. Competition? Meh. The Hyde and Mondrian may be two distinctly different hotels, but they do share a number of facilities. Those three restaurants, for example, and the swimming pools. The latter regularly has a DJ. Not everyone is looking forward to that, but fortunately you can also be on the beach in no time. Or at the neighbours, because it's just a tad more luxurious there. Hyde is a bit more mainstream and a bit more commercial than the Mondrian. Still cool, it just depends on what you are looking for. A good holiday with good beds and good food can be found there in any case. And still on that wonderful Cala Llonga, a piece of Ibiza that stole our hearts.
Another nice side effect of the presence of these two hotels is that more and more restaurants and shops are opening their doors. There were already a few chiringuitos that are not quite hip (and therefore much nicer), but more choice is of course not a bad thing. These choices are located both outside and at the three restaurants within the hotel walls. At restaurant Cuyo The Mondrian features Mexican flavors, mainly those of sea food, and sounds are central. To complete the Latino experience, a band regularly plays during dinner.
In our humble opinion, SONROJO the nicest of the three restaurants. Especially because it is such a wonderfully relaxed chiringuito where the atmosphere is always good. Just like the food, relatively uncomplicated but a lot fancier than the food at an average beach bar. Although it is certainly not necessary to order everything, with your feet in the sand, cocktail in hand and a bowl of patatas bravas and croquettas on the table you are completely fine.
The Perq is a trendy coffee bar where you can sip smoothies and juices all day long. And you can shove down the necessary sweets; whoever opens their laptop even on Ibiza can reward themselves for it. This place is per(q)fect for flex workers, which is why there are regular laptop-playing locals can be found. It is also recommended for those who have left their work in the Netherlands: good coffee, good atmosphere and good pastries and sandwiches.
