On a different note…
Of course, this is mainly about the hospitality industry, or rather about our home. World traveler versus homebody. However, I invariably hear myself saying to people: Insta isn't real life, right? What you see is often 'just work'. My work certainly isn't just work, but for me, it is just my work too. And although the things I struggle with in real life feel like small potatoes compared to global issues, they *are* struggles.
Lately, at the restaurant table, there has been a lot of talk about hormone balance if you aren't 3x7 (yay!) and the combination with the fact that it's just a lot. Work, kids, life. The works. We all struggle with it, sometimes a bit more than usual.
After a few visits to the GP and following their advice, I ended up at the Pomme Clinic in Amsterdam, run by two sisters, one focusing on the outside and the other on the inside. To put it very bluntly. A great (unsponsored) tip for anyone else swinging from left to right and just not quite knowing what to do anymore.
Personally, I’ve been getting quite discouraged lately by all the advice (and advice in various podcasts). It made me restless and, above all, insecure. After all, what works for one person doesn't necessarily work for another, and what one person needs is superfluous for another. In any case, I got a huge amount of stress from the tips. Sweet, really, but for me, it was far too much (contradictory) information. With Pomme, I personally found a listening ear for my concerns and (hopefully) a solution (we are on our way). And I wish that for everyone.
Deliberately no detailed story about what seems to work for me. Not because I don't want to share that, but because everyone is different. But a shout-out to seek tailored advice from the pros, and in my case, a ♥️ for @pommeclinics
Do I have a favorite room in the house? Yes! This one. We call it the 'nook,' and although it is such a nice, bright spot, we didn't spend enough time there until recently because the table that was there was too big. I searched for a long time for the perfect table here (because I wanted to create air and space, and that was quite a search), and I am so happy with this table and the stools that complement it perfectly.
Both are from WOOOD, a super nice brand that I'm a total fan of now (the outdoor chair with the grey and white striped cushions is from the same brand: a really great tip, so the cushions are for outdoors, can be washed, and the chair itself is surprisingly lightweight (everyone here at home drags it everywhere). Anyway, WOOOD. Fangirl here recently.

Welcome to my 'saves'
My saves inbox here on Insta is largely my wishlist and reference guide. From hotels to interior design, and from shoes back to hotels and restaurants, and even more hotels. Mostly a lot of things I still have to save up for for a while (or, more realistically: quite a long time). I like that, because when the time finally comes, I actually always know exactly what I want.
What I definitely do need for that is a credit card. It is indispensable in my line of work anyway: traveling abroad without one is truly unthinkable. It is the buffer, the seatbelt, and the safety net of every trip. No matter how well you plan your trip, you prefer to pay for that rental car, that nice hotel room, or a last-minute upgrade without any hassle. With a credit card from the Dutch company ICS, you always have a plan B, and you can reach ICS 24/7 in case of a suspicious payment. In the event of loss or theft of your credit card, you can block it yourself immediately via the app. So convenient and reassuring. That vintage designer sofa from abroad that I still want so badly is also a major online purchase. If I get it, I will definitely buy it with my credit card. That way, I have the security of the delivery guarantee and purchase protection that you get through ICS. Just always check the terms and conditions.

And here it is, at last, our garden house! So happy with it. The garden has suddenly become a sort of South of France meets the Cotswolds, and I’ve already completely turned it into my workspace. It was a huge job... And we learned a lot from it. And I’ll leave it at that ;-)
The starting point was really to use and reuse what was already there: the large white tiles are from Karwei and we mixed them with black tiles left over from our bathroom. That way, you can very easily create an original floor. And because the ground in front of the cottage is very uneven, we built a deck in front of it, creating a real island. The cushions on the sofa inside come from the garden of our old house, and the square striped mattress cushions are from Karwei. Just like the lamps. The small yellow table is new, the green pouf and the large parasol are from Karwei last year (the same goes for the garden table and the chairs in the foreground: whoever saves things...).
I can already hear the calls for the colors ;). Everything comes from Karwei's mixing service, but with Farrow and Ball color codes. The green is Bancha No. 298, the yellow is Dayroom Yellow No. 233, and the red is Romesco No. CB4. You provide these names and codes to the mixing service and that's it!
Barts Boekje episode 625263040 of 'Just LOOK how nice the Netherlands is!' Because it is. We went taking a look in and around Volendam – so fun and beautiful and cozy!
Why? Because we went to @vandervalkhotelvolendam: highly recommended! A magnificent hotel with a patisserie, restaurant, and bar – in a prime location at very good prices. And 20 minutes from Amsterdam, should you want to combine it (also a good idea).
Listed here are a few of our favorite spots in the neighborhood (and of course, you can find the rest on bartsboekje.com)
