Summer in your glass: Chandon Garden Spritz and where to get it
We love cocktails, spritzers and fresh drinks in big glasses. Well, good news: there's a new kid in town, namely the CHANDON Garden Spritz! Doesn't that sound like summer in your glass? In August, you can order this Garden Spritz at various catering establishments throughout the Netherlands, whether it's the classic version or a creative twist from the establishment itself. Where, when, how? Where and when you can read below (and more are coming, so keep an eye on the list). How? You can only find out by joining us.
Who are/what is CHANDON then? They are winemakers from Argentina who have known exactly what they are doing for years, especially when it comes to sparkling wines. You can find them in the foothills of the Andes mountains (if you are in the area, a visit to the winery is a must) and now the professionals of CHANDON come with the CHANDON Garden Spritz. A mix of their CHANDON's dry cuvée (for the connoisseur: it is made from chardonnay, pinot noir, and sémillon grapes) and their homemade Valencia orange liqueur. The Argentinian preference for slightly more bitter flavors also comes to the fore (a bit like Fernet) in the liqueur and then in combination with Chandon's own cuvée it is that summer party in your glass.
Always nice to know: CHANDON does not waste! Only the peel is used for the liqueur, but the rest of the orange is squeezed and distributed to local schools. What is left is used as compost in CHANDON's own vineyards.
Friday August 19 and Saturday August 20: Pavlov, The Hague – couldn’t make it last weekend? Now you have two more chances to get a table at Pavlov.
Saturday August 20 and Sunday August 21: NENI, Amsterdam – sitting down at NENI in sunny South is never a punishment, and certainly not with a cocktail. Fill the table and drink them!
Saturday August 20 and Sunday August 21: Brunch Bar Rotterdam – cocktails and brunch go hand in hand. Add the oh so cozy Scheepskwartier in Roffa and you're all set.
Sunday August 21: Mr White & Black Ox, Utrecht – this fun story can be found in the former headquarters of Dowe Egberts. So expect a good cup of coffee, ditto (coffee) cocktails and a fun menu with all things to share.
Saturday August 27: Rodin, Rotterdam – Parisian atmosphere Rotterdam style: that's Rodin. Get a spritz on the small but nice city terrace? Okay, let's do it.
Sunday August 28: Boca's, Amsterdam – In Amsterdam’s Jordaan, Boca’s is for all your tapas-with-a-twist needs. You can order a platter or pick your own and fill the table.
Thursday 1, Friday 2 and Saturday 3 September: LAB 071, Leiden – on these days you can find the High Spritz package at LB 071 at the Science Park in Leiden. Cauliflower wings (at LAB they love veggies) and two cups of Chandon Spritz for 15 ekkies. You can also order them separately, but a snack on the side is always a good idea.
The refreshing orange liqueur is made from perfectly ripe Valencia oranges from a pesticide-free and sustainable family farm in Entre Rios. The oranges are peeled, then a portion is dried to use dried and fresh orange peel. This mix of dried and fresh is macerated in grape brandy (with some herbs and spices to make it extra tasty). Less sugar, but a whole lot of flavor.
If you are somehow unable to sit down on a terrace for the CHANDON Garden Spritz, you can simply make it yourself and serve it in no time. It is so easy that it can hardly be called a recipe.
Grab one of your prettiest fishbowl glasses and fill it with ice. Pour there 180ml CHANDON Garden Spritz over and garnish with a sprig rosemary and a dried orange peel.
