City trip and a preventive health check: you can do it in Düsseldorf
If it doesn't help, it won't hurt, as is said in a preventive medical examination. We would like to say that doctors also mention the disadvantages, such as the high costs and the small deviations that occur on scans and are often meaningless.
And if you do, it is convenient, easy and relatively affordable in Düsseldorf to get a full body health check-up with a shorter waiting time and without a doctor's prescription. Here it comes: the reason for this is that in Düsseldorf they have ultra-modern medical institutions with high-quality healthcare and shorter waiting times than in our own country. Moreover, in Germany you do not need a prescription for a check-up or scan of your entire body. Making an appointment is a breeze: via the websites or telephone of one of the clinics listed on the Health Tourism website. You explain your situation, they tell you what steps to take next. A preventive health check takes – let's say – a day or half to a day. You will receive the results by email a while later. And then it is up to you whether you will go to Düsseldorf again or take any measures in the Netherlands. They speak English in all affiliated clinics and at some clinics they even speak Dutch.
Whether healthcare in Düsseldorf is covered by your health insurance depends on the insurance you have. You can check this with your own health insurer.
If you go to Düsseldorf for treatment, your family members, friends or whoever you bring with you can go into the city during your appointment. Just join us a few hours later.
But of course we first have to know where we want to sleep. Several hotels in Düsseldorf are connected to the city's health clinics. These are, for example, the luxurious (and beautiful) hotels Breidenbacher Hof en The Wellem.
Conveniently located in the Loerick district on the left side of the Rhine, you will find Voco Hotel Seestern. Just outside the hustle and bustle of the city centre, and with the Ubahn you will be in the Altstadt in 20 minutes (or a short hour's walk to get your steps in). You can park your car (for a small fee) right at the hotel. There is a restaurant that is open all day, a bar and a (small) gym with sauna and steam bath: just enough during a city trip!
Voco Hotel Seestern has recently been renovated, so everything has a nice fresh look again.
Is it just us or does a city trip like this always revolve largely around food and drinks? And they understand that in Düsseldorf too. Every neighborhood has its own charm:
- Little Tokyo: this district is the Asian mecca of Germany. This is how you score Yabase really good sushi with fresh fish. The row of NaNiWa Noodles + Soup, it's more than worth it. Japanese home-made dishes for a small price can be found in the small authentic restaurant with the name Kagaya. Nagaya* is a bit more expensive, but we bet you're a fan?
- Old town: aka the old town and aka the part of town where you'll find traditional German pubs such as Beuys Bar and The Oak's Bar
- MedienHafen: is the trendy district along the Rhine with modern restaurants and bars including water views. You eat burgers Bob & Mary. They serve something a little more fancy on your plate Lido Harbor.
- Flingern: you will find trendy restaurants in this dynamic neighborhood. For example, go to Luang Prabang of Waya Kitchen.
Did someone say beer? In the old brewery Uerige, your beer glass is refilled without you realizing it. In fact, you really have to turn your glass upside down to indicate that you are done, otherwise there will be a new glass of beer in front of you.
To be fair, a health check can also cause some tension. Tip of the day is a visit to the Vabali Spa, a few kilometers from Düsseldorf. The theme of this wellness is, gosh, Bali. You feel, see and taste it in everything from the moment you step inside. Honestly? There are quite a few large wellness centers that we think would be better not. Too massive, too busy, not quite right. But not here at Vabali. Big, that's true, but also chic. It exudes class and allure, where the shades, fabrics and materials remind us of Bali. With lovely lounge areas where you can curl up on the velvet chair in front of the fireplace with a good book and a glass of red wine. What else can you find at Vabali? Various treatments and no fewer than ten saunas, with a huge choice: from a steam bath to a spicy panoramic sauna. Something for everyone. Personal favorite: the infinity pool in the garden, surrounded by bamboo - with a view over the Elbsee lake. Ten points.
By train (the ICE from Amsterdam Central, Utrecht Central or Arnhem is a must) you will be in the heart of Düsseldorf in no time. Once you have arrived in the city of conviviality, there is a good network of public transport. With the Dusseldorf Card you can travel for free and benefit from various discounts.
And we strongly recommend the trains, but if that is not possible, you can of course also travel to Düsseldorf by car. There are plenty of parking spaces where you can park your car. Please note: an environmental sticker is mandatory for traveling by car in Düsseldorf.
