Enjoy culture in Antwerp: these are the nicest neighborhoods
It's no secret that we love Antwerp. Nice atmosphere, nice people and good catering. A person doesn't need much more. It's extra nice that you are with the tren within no time in 't City stands. Antwerp's train station is recommended in itself, as is the historic center. Although there is also a lot to see outside the center. The best way to experience culture in Antwerp is in these neighborhoods.
Rather talk shop, brunch, or just curious about our all-time favorites? We have too!
The South is the place to be for art lovers. The tall trees, wide avenues and architecture are occasionally reminiscent of Paris. Yes Yesthen you know you're in the right place. The KMSKA reopened its doors in September, after an eleven(!) year renovation. Besides looking at art, you can also enjoy a delicious meal at the restaurant here Madonna. This museum is compared to the Rijksmuseum and we understand that. The building is beautiful, enormous and you will find both old and more modern art. Is the latter more your thing? The FOMU and M HKA (with roof terrace) are definitely worth a visit.
New South is especially new (what's in a name) and still in development. Not the nicest part of the city, although you will also find more and more art galleries here.
Zurenborg is one of the most beautiful neighborhoods in Antwerp. Here you will find an eclectic mix of architectural styles, which despite their differences form a nice whole. Our favorite street? Definitely the Cogels-Osylei! One building is more beautiful than the other, for sure Insta-proof. If you walk a bit towards Krugerstraat, you will also arrive street art. in return for. Exhausted? Then settle down at one of the cozy restaurants on Dageraadplein.
On the other side of the train tracks lies 't Groen Kwartier. On the grounds of the former Military Hospital you can now sleep in hotel August. Around the corner from the hotel, which used to be a monastery, and star restaurant The Jane lies the PAKT. A cultural breeding ground full of catering establishments and companies. Very hip, industrial and above all very cozy. For example, you will find Stadsbrouwerij de Koninck (when in Belgium..), Caffènation and Camionette. At the latter they serve delicious plant-based dishes (no, you really don't miss anything) and many different natural wines.
That the Fashion & Theater District is also called Latin Quarter of Antwerp is mentioned, we completely understand. Once again there is a wonderful atmosphere, there are many nice museums, cozy restaurants and nice boutiques. You will find the latter in abundance in the Kloosterstraat. There are several antique shops in the streets around St. Andrew's Church. Be sure to take a stroll through the Maesganck. A cute hidden alley with four houses from the 17th century. Seek and you will find. Because you don't immediately bump into it (you reach the alley via a narrow passage on Korte Ridderstraat or via Augustijnenstraat), it is nice and quiet here. If you come on a Sunday, don't miss the Bird Market. Yes, very touristy, but secretly fun.
