The tastiest ice creams and the best ice cream parlors in the Netherlands
I know ... I'm quite one of a kind, but you never had to wake me up for ice cream. To each his own. 'Haved', because that was the end. Since my first pregnancy, getting ice cream (yes, that became a verb in Huize Bart) has become a tradition and we search the city for the tastiest (because with that new love in my life also came criticism). And not just in Amsterdam: we also look for the tastiest ice-cold ones outside the ring goodies. And it's back again: The tastiest ice creams and the best ice cream parlors in the Netherlands. Don't mention it.
Mount Pelmo, Amsterdam – Number one, because there really is no better ice cream parlor in the city than the classic one Mount Pelmo, in the heart of the Jordaan. In fact, if this had not become a regular walk, I fear my love for ice cream would never have gotten off the ground.
Miuz Gelato, Amsterdam – New in Amsterdam on the Overtoom. Stylish interior and an Italian owner with a lot of love for the business. Ps they have burrata ice cream (yes really!!) that passed our test with flying colors.
Tofani, Amsterdam – Immediately after Monte Pelmo in the Jordaan, the Tofani ice cream parlor is located on the Kloveniersburgwal around the corner from the Nieuwmarkt, also in the heart of the city.
Jordino, Amsterdam – another great ice cream favorite in your own city is the cozy Jordino on the Haarlemmerstraat. Here you get delicious chocolate-covered cones with your ice cream.
Icemanship, Amsterdam – Ice + craftsmanship = ice works of art. The creative ice creams are beautiful, tasty and also gluten-free. You will find IJsmanschap near the Rembrandt Park, a great combination!
Massimo Ice Cream Factory, Amsterdam – It is not without reason that it is packed in rows in front of the door: the home-made pistachio ice cream with nuts from Sicily is delicious and so is the caffé is of Italian quality. With that coffee you get, of course, a tiny scoop of ice cream on the side.
La La Ice, Amsterdam – This salon is certainly cheerful: if not because of the elegant font and the LED lights that scream that you really have to come in, then it is because of the artisanal ice cream, made from purely organic ingredients. Oh, and the vegan milkshakes that you can put together yourself.
Pisa, Amsterdam – Near the RAI is what many consider the best ice cream parlor in the city, Pisa. Traditional Italian ice cream is served there, such as yoghurt amarene and After Eight ice cream.
For the 020 enthusiast, here are many more good ice cream parlors in Amsterdam.
Ice cream parlor De Hoop, Blaricum – The fuchsia colored one American dinner-like business is already selling the tastiest artisanal ice cream since 1898. We are not alone in our opinion. An outing is a trip to Blaricum, with a cone of De Hoop as the ultimate climax for young and old.
Garronne, Haarlem – The tastiest ice cream in Haarlem and the surrounding area has been made at Garronne since 1949. Italian ice cream of course, and that's how you pronounce the name of the business – with the Italian flair that Garronne deserves.
From dam, Heemstede – This ice cream parlor x chocolaterie has been rocking through the summers for years. It has to be, as the first rays of sunshine immediately form lines at the door. Of course, that means they are good, really good. Pistachio ice cream with whole nuts, marzipan with marzipan pieces. And oh, delicious must try-tastes like Heemsteen or Heavenly mud! Divine!
Nelis, Weesp – The best place for lemon cheesecake ice cream and a household name in the area.
Intelligentsia, Eindhoven Yyogurt-lemoncurd, KiBana and blackberry-lavender ice cream, to name just a few flavors. Plus a spacious terrace on Eindhoven's most creative square meters, the former Philips site Strijp S.
Gusti Factory, Breda – It used to be Toetie Froetie on the Grote Markt in Breda, van de Italian Gori family, where the rows were thick. That is no more. But the family's son-in-law was initiated into the secret family recipe and the fourth generation now runs Gusti Factory on Ginnekenweg.
Frezzo, Breda and Den Bosch – A little further away, on the Nieuwe Ginnenkenstraat in Breda, is Frezzo. Another great one. There is also a branch of this colorful business in Den Bosch.
Lavinia, Vught – We are not only fans of the ice cream here, but also of that floral wall with neon letters behind the ice cream display case. The flavors are not boring either, but what do you expect when you have a real ice cream lab in which to experiment. Oh, extra tip from us: order your scroppino online.
And for everyone who loves Tony Chocolonely: Nowadays, slave-free chocolate is also available in ice cream form. And here it is scooped (Tony Chocolonely caramel-sea salt ice cream!): Ice cream parlor Lunchroom Lo Solé, Sevenum / Multi-Ice, Purmerend / Ice cream and Zopie, Utrecht / Ice cream parlor Laaker Boere, Ohé and Laak / Ice cream parlor Salute, Zwolle / Paul's Ice Cream, Almere Outside / Ice cream maker Scoop!, Nieuwegein / Ice cream café Holland, Uden.
Florence, The Hague - This ice cream parlor on Torenstraat is a household name in The Hague. Good for ice cream, but especially good for people watching; always fun here.
The Ice Cream Parlour, Rotterdam - Also a household name, but in Rotterdam; It is always pleasantly busy at De IJssalon. There is one on the Meent and on the West-Kruiskade and in the Markthal. Everything looks great, the bulbs are large and tasty and they have so many flavors that you are guaranteed a choice. (Also found in Barendrecht and Rockanje.)
Ice cream parlor Venezia, Rotterdam - Don't worry, we won't skip it (we wouldn't dare). After all, every Rotterdammer knows Venezia, on the Oude Binnenweg. You will be served artisanal ice cream from an Italian family of origin. Beautiful cuts are their specialty, and the best known are spaghetti ice cream and lasagna ice cream – which luckily don't taste like spaghetti and lasagna respectively, but do look like them.
From Swoll, Apeldoorn – The color pops here both in the salon and the showcase. Don't let that fool you, because they like a surprise. Vegetables and flowers are no strangers to Van Swoll – we're intrigued. Blackcurrants, carrot and violet or pear, jasmine and fennel?
Iceie Fine, Callantsoog – They know a thing or two about making ice cream in this family business, just assume that. IJsie Prima was named Ice Cream Parlor of the Year 2020/2021. Plus the combination of beach + ice cream is of course quite something extraction.
Ice cream parlor De Mient, Alkmaar – Is intact gemütlicher on the water, and the great thing is: if you are sailing, you can use the boat bell to easily order an ice cream from the sloop. The mocha flavor is the specialty of the salon.
Bernardos, Ede – No, we don't come to Ede very often, but we were tipped off Bernardo's several times and it's true: a visit to this ice cream parlor is really worthwhile. Bernardo's is always inventing new flavors and toppings and adds one or two flavors every year. In the summer months there is a line outside.
Roberto Gelato, Utrecht – Owner Roberto makes fresh ice cream every day with natural ingredients for which he travels all over the world. Here are the strangest (but delicious) combinations. Ice cream with herring or beer flavor, for example.
Partridge, Harderwijk – Here you can get ice cream with a touch of glamour. Partridge is not just an ice cream parlour, but also a pastry shop. You can see that reflected in them outstanding ice cream cake creations (the best of both worlds). Just an ice cream? Do it, you won't regret it.
De Schepper, Julianadorp – Yes, our favorite flavor here too: 'the green gold of Etna' (pistachio). Delicious on a cone dipped in Belgian chocolate. Prefer fruit? Then take a crispy pink or green cone that tastes like raspberry or pear. Trust us, not just for the kids.
Incredibly Delicious Ice Cream, Nijmegen – No scoops of ice cream here, but just from a stick. That is incredibly tasty, provided it is made from fresh fruit and by these great people. You will find them at the Honig complex, where there are only good businesses anyway (such as a fantastic brewery).
Brescia, Breskens – On the coast, the Zeeland coast, azure blue tones, sunshine and of course Italian ice. We are sold.
The Milk House, Terhole – Here too, ice cream from our own cows, we continue to love it. No playground, but an educational tour of the farm for the children. Talking about combining the useful with the pleasant.
The Ice Cream Tub, Denekamp – You not only experience farm life at Erve Kuiper, you also taste it. The cows on the farm ensure that your ice cream is prepared with the freshest milk. And what's better for the kids than an ice cream after a whole day of playing?
Wingbergerhoeve, Files – A beautiful landscape to enjoy your ice cream in. No cows of our own, but local fruit growers who make your ice cream perfectly sweet. Plus you can take some extra vitamins with you at home.
Clevers, multiple locations in Limburg – The bottom line is not the first one. Clevers is a household name in Limburg, but also far beyond. In 2018 they received another nomination for the title of Best Ice Cream Parlor of the Year. They didn't win it then, but they did in previous years. Just like other ice cream prices. But even if there were no such feats, you will know after the first bite: this is Ice Cream with a capital letter.
Okay, we now know where to go if we want to get ice cream outside. Of course, getting an ice cream together will always be a fun thing to do. But what if you just don't feel like going out? So order. Us go-to is then the ice of Oppo Brothers. Why is simple. First of all, the flavors are exactly what you want – think double salted caramel en double chocolate brownie. Okay we love everything with double. In addition, you can eat these jars after a long day at work without feeling guilty for a single second. The guys at Oppo have managed to use 60% fewer calories and sugar in a jar than with regular ice cream. So come on!
