Three Zinnen Italy

It sounds German, Three Peaks, but it is Italian. And that combination of atmospheres is exactly what you will find in the South Tyrolean area of Drei Zinnen. Tyrolean log cabins and Italian pasta. White ski slopes and pastel-colored churches. Tasty mulled wine and good Italian wines. And of course there is also an Italian name opposite that German name; Tre Cime. Three, Three, Three. Sentences, Cime, Peaks. Do you get it? Different language, same name, same place. In the rightmost point of South Tyrol. So Northern Italy. If you get lost for a moment.

The Dolomites

The Dolomites

In the almighty Dolomites you will find numerous friendly villages, which in winter are connected by miles of ski slopes. As many as 1200 kilometers of ski slopes in the Dolomiti Superski area. Ski – or board – your heart out. And in the summer, these slopes, by road or rail, provide a wonderful stage for many outdoor fun. Hiking, mountain climbing, horse riding, cycling. Or simply tour around one of the beautiful lakes, take a Burgundian wine tour or indulge in South Tyrolean cuisine.

Where do you sleep then? And do we have any eating tips? Sure! We stayed in the lovely village of San Candido. Recommended! We scrolled around the area a bit further and every village has its own charm. So we have to go back.

With wellness – Are you not averse to a bit of swimming, bubbling and... spa? Then check Sporthotel Tyrol. This nice hotel is located in the heart of the village of San Candido. Once you have finished bathing, you can walk into the village to shop or order a delicious plate of pizza or schnitzel in one of the restaurants. Is the hotel full or would you rather stay far away from the fun, there are several wellness hotels in the area.

On the slopes – Sometimes all you want is the white fields, an early night's sleep and... repeat. At Joas Natur Hotel can do that. And you will also receive a stylish B&B gift. Charmingly furnished and with a view over the slopes. Or the green meadows if you go in the summer. Joas is not the only hotel on the mountain. There is choice plenty.

At the farmer - We really enjoy sleeping in a mountain hut or at the farm. Your Heidi dream come true. This Tyrolean giant log cabins are rented out at certain times as a place to stay. You can choose whether you want to sleep at a cattle ranch or somewhere on top of a mountain. And no – sorry for any disappointment – you will not sleep among the hay bales. Nice beds, thick blankets and clean apartments await you.

1477 Reichhalter – This boutique hotel is located in the center of Lana. And not just any boutique hotel, you can go there for a coffee or snack in the café on the ground floor, but the most beautiful is one of the eight rooms. The interior has been meticulously designed by interior stylist Christina von Berg. And yes, even the small shampoos and shower gels have been well thought out. These are all vegan and the scents are inspired by the mountains and nature of Tyrol. The beds (my lord, the beds) can best be compared to a kind of down cloud that you don't want to step out of. The menu in the restaurant is small, pure and refined. The wines are just as pure and come from South Tyrol and Trentino. 1477 Reichshalter

Park Hotel Mondschein, Bolzano – This historic gem is located in the heart of Bolzano. The oldest part of this building dates from 1320 (yes, really old). This hotel aims to help travelers relax, whether with an iced coffee in hand or an ice-cold beer. The hotel has 72 rooms and 10 suites. And really, they are all a dream for the designer lover among us. The rooms have meter-high ceilings and modern finishes with dark wood. Whether you travel by train or by car, want a breakfast after an overnight stay or prefer to go into the city, everything is possible here. Park Hotel Mondschein

Villa Arnica – Another beautiful place in the heart of Lana, but this time without it kids. Adults only Villa Arnica is surrounded by apple trees, palm trees and mountains. The building was built in 1925 and is tranquil on the inside. Read: an orchestra of whistling birds in the garden all day long. With a sustainable garden to table concept, you eat fresh fruits and vegetables all day long. They actually serve a little bit of everything here: freshly baked, freshly picked and freshly grilled. The garden with swimming pool looks like one from a movie that you watch and Instantly he thinks: I have to go here! At Villa Arnica you can choose from four room types, all equally dreamy and modern. Read: white tiled bathrooms, beautiful corners and classic wood. Just as nice: almost all hotspots can be reached on foot or by bike (we like). Villa Arnica

Food

Food

Jora Mountain Dining – If there's a party anywhere in South Tyrol, it's on your plate. No more schnitzel or cheese fondue during your holiday week. Which can also be tasty, of course. But South Tyrol is and remains Italy. And the food is and remains a great feast. Jora is located – very surprisingly – on a mountain. In a beautiful log cabin, TV chef Markus Holzer serves you finger-licking dishes. Markus cooks with local ingredients and with respect for their origins. The combination of Alpine cuisine and Italian cuisine prepares both pasta and... potatoes on the menu. South Tyrol through and through.

Restaurant Tilia – This picture of a restaurant by Michelin star chef Chris Oberhammer is a ten-minute drive from San Candido. Restaurant Tilia is located in a futuristic glass building where you can enjoy a delicious culinary treat. As if 1 star in the Dolomites wasn't enough, South Tyrol has a whopping one 25 Michelin star restaurants. A week of haute cuisine and hiking or skiing during the day are among the options.

Törggelen – In autumn, South Tyrol has the typical local affair Törggelen. Ever originated as meet-up from South Tyrolean farmers and wine merchants to taste the new wine. Nowadays it has become a tradition with nice autumn walks, wine tasting and enjoying local specialties such as roasted chestnuts and sauerkraut dishes. Suddenly autumn in the Dolomites sounds very tempting.

There is even more in terms of food – much more – to do in the region. From farm cafés to wine cellars, from pizzerias to vinotheques. Whatever time of year you choose to go. Was it already clear that we are fans?
