Oh Flachau, how wonderful you are in winter. Don't quote us on it, but we might like you even more in the summer. Then we have the mountain tops more to ourselves, the alpine meadows are more idyllic and there is simply more to do. Where we put the kids in a ski class in the winter (sorry not sorry), a holiday in Flachau with the family in the summer really means spending time together.

Let's to Austria, SalzburgerLand to be precise and the Flachau region to be even more precise.

Man oh man, SalzburgerLand has endless winter sports fun. But that certainly also applies to the summer. It's certainly nice to go to a winter sports area in the summer, because those gondolas are cranked up for a dose of fun that you don't get any of in the winter. Think of walking, hiking, go-karting, climbing courses and so on.

And the mountain huts also continue to operate as usual with local dishes, beer gardens and terraces (plus: more guarantee of sun now than during your winter sports). And those nice hotels and apartments in the winter? They may even be more affordable in the summer.

Yes, how come you can't compare Flachau with a beach holiday? No, okay, you shouldn't want to either. But isn't a dip in a mountain lake instead of the high seas, climbing the most beautiful mountain peaks instead of sand-blowing dunes and (e-)biking instead of hours in a warm car to the next hotspot much better?

Flachau is known for its beautiful alpine meadows, which are especially popular with families. Hiking in this region means more than putting one foot in front of the other, because Flachau is a hiking destination that is among the best in Austria. You have the Marbachalmen, a walk along a crystal clear mountain stream and on mountains such as the Grießenkar, the Lackenkogel or the Spirzinger you can walk to an altitude of more than 2000 meters. Put on good walking shoes for the kids and maybe they will even join you. Otherwise, the gondolas (Startjet 1 and 2) will take you straight into the walking area. There is more to experience with those gondolas. You will find the family-friendly Flori's adventure course at the Starjet 1 mountain station with fun puzzles and play stations for your kids. Even more action? In addition to mountain biking, you can also do rafting, canyoning, climbing, stand-up paddling and mountain karting.

Eating, drinking & staying overnight

Our bellies start to rumble with action. And our stomachs are also rumbling from all the delicious food in the mountain restaurants of Flachau. In many (read: really) many places in Flachau you can get a good start with a local dinner/lunch/breakfast whatever. You eat that food with an even better view. Food coma guaranteed and for that we need a good place to sleep. Fortunately, they know what to do with that here too.
