new in nice: our beloved Hotel Amour (Nice, France)
Here on this site, and privately, it has been praised (and tipped) so often when it comes to Paris. "Do you know what to do? Book a room at Hotel Amour! Not expensive at all, fantastic decor and a great, off the beaten track, location." There are two locations in Paris (of which we still secretly like the oldest one) and now the small creative hotel club also opened a location on the Cote d'Azur. And in Nice. On the beach. I repeat: ON THE BEACH. nothing not to like, we have already left.
When we think of 'on holiday with the little stuff', we think of the Costa Brava. Or a glamping site in the area of St. Tropez. Delicious, absolutely, but don't forget Nice, a little further away and just as ancient and French through and through. Nice exists by the grace of its compact Old Town and the promenade along the rocky coast. The rest kind of hangs around it. The old city is atmospheric, authentic and cultural (and its fourteen museums all cost 10 euros entrance, including the Matisse Museum, renovated in 2006, which is highly recommended) and there are people who do not leave the famous Promenade des Anglais for whole days. Touristy, the purists snort. But we don't think they understand how to enjoy a carefree holiday. If you ask us, we will stay for a few nights in the wonderful and... brand new Hotel Amour.
(and we also love to explore Nice! You can read about our favorite restaurants, for with and for with-without the kids, here: Bart's Best of Nice)
Beautiful pastel shades, creative trinkets and a slightly arrogant staff. That is, until the kids come into the picture. Then the gentlemen and ladies of the ministry melt like snow in the sun.
The small restaurant Marinette Kitchen is not far away. Here are beautiful dishes (pancakes, baguette with avocado and salmon, breakfast bowls and raspberry cake) on blue and white floral plates on wooden tables with field bouquets. Add to that the friendly service, the sunny interior and a plate adapted to the wishes of the little chef... And voila, there is your regular breakfast address. But Boulangerie Pattisserie Jeannot has muffins with Nutella and Smarties. Did anyone need more information?
