These are the most beautiful hotels and resorts on the south coast of Sri Lanka (Ahangama)
Is Sri Lanka the new Bali? Maybe. More and more surfers, yogis and digital nomads know how to find their way to Ahangama, a fishing village on the south coast of the island. Not without reason, the region is known for its tropical beaches, charming villages, surf spots, rich culture and impressive nature. And for its beautiful hotels and resorts, listed below.
The program Coast 67 Boutique Hotel is located right on Kabalana Beach. Kabalana is one of the largest and finest beaches in Ahangama and is only a five-minute drive from the center. The rooms are spacious, with lots of wood and here and there rattan accents and artwork on the wall. Coast 67 was founded by a local entrepreneur with a heart for the business and the place and that benefits the atmosphere. The only downside? It is quite noisy. If you have a room on the street side, earplugs are a must black.
In the intro we already mentioned that Ahangame is a real fishing village. That means that when you order fish somewhere you can assume that the same fish swam in the sea the day before. Fresher than fresh, also at the sea food restaurant of The Mansion Koggala. The hotel opened in early 2025 and has only six rooms. Equipped with all the comforts, including a butler who ensures that guests certainly do not want for anything. The chance that you have the pool and the beach to yourself is therefore quite big. It is good to know that swimming is not necessarily recommended because the sea can be quite rough. However, the pool is always clean, quiet and crystal clear.
That we are fans of Booking.com is no secret. Nice and clear, no hassle and everything in one place. And we really mean everything. There is no literal translation for the term Dharma, but in many cases it refers to walking your life path. We can agree with that, because Dharma Place is a place we love to walk past and only continue our way a few days later. The villa has only a few rooms, so it never feels crowded or massive. Above the roof terrace hangs a shade cloth so you can sit there relaxed even at the hottest times of the day without getting sunburned. Between eight in the morning and eight in the evening, all kinds of delicious food is also served. Prefer to eat later? With the tuktuk you are between the restaurants within three minutes.
Last but not least: The Find Hotel. Perhaps the best find on this list. Not only, but also partly because of the fact that pink dominates. Most walls, including those on the outside, are old pink. It contrasts nicely with the blue sea. It is so close that you could almost jump into it from your balcony. The view from your hammock is certainly not bad. The road to Ahangama is not very pedestrian-friendly, but fortunately there are enough tuktuks that take you from a to b.
