And there it is. The long-awaited number 3 of the series of coolest stays on the white isle… Ibiza's coolest-not-even-open-yet-hide-away-stays for this summer part 3: Finca Siempre Agosto

Well, coolest feels a bit uncomfortable to write about your own 'baby' - so be sure to judge for yourself - because this is really about (OMG WHAAA) our very own 'Gallery & Guestrooms' in Ibiza, called: Farm Siempre Agosto.

We will first update you on how it all came about: since last year we (aka Bart's Buddy Maud with family) the hectic city life of Amsterdam exchanged for an old finca in the middle or just say nowhere, in the tranquillity north of Ibiza (something about kids in the busy city, always cycling through the rain, found a fantastic school in the middle of the forest, yolo, etc... You can feel it). A nice contrast, and yet so logical: in Amsterdam I worked for years as... stylist/curator and event manager for various design & interior projects and all my passions and expertise now seem to come together in this dream project.

The idea actually arose naturally when we saw this beautiful centuries-old estate which we soon renamed Finca Siempre Agosto (which means 'forever August' because that's what life here feels like to us). Of course, I've always (who hasn't?) been romantic myself I leave-like (but-with-a-positive-ending) visions.

Because our estate two additional guest rooms it quickly became clear that this really had to become a B&B. Of course it had to be a place where ultimately chilled can be. But also a place to get inspired; through the peace, space and nature around you.

De 200 years old finca was built according to traditional 'ibicenco' architecture, but recently renovated and therefore equipped with spacious, luxurious bathrooms. The authentic style (high light walls with small windows, wooden shutters and ditto ceilings) has been maintained and only sustainable and natural materials have been used. A nice basis for the guest rooms and to style the surrounding spaces with a mix of authentic local products in combination with modern contemporary art, design from various textile & product designers, flea market finds, special furniture, unique pieces, vintage design classics and finds from distant travels.

THE GALLERY/ SHOP
In addition to the B&B Always August also a species gallery function: an organic platform that is constantly evolving for artists and designers who exhibit and sell their work here. In addition to work that we have collected ourselves over the years (including paintings and prints of the highlights mentioned above Milou Neelen (who also developed our great logo) and Kat Klerks, special flea market finds, various design classics and unique vintage furniture) we are currently also working with various designers to create exclusive, unique products especially for the Bed and Breakfast .

For example, fashion & textile designer Sophia Bentoh as we speak super fashionable kimonos are under the sewing machine and are the indigo print makers of Blueprintamsterdam busy with crazy bed linen. Multitalented illustrator/ designer/ artist Anne Olde Kalter will be here next month as the first official guest to carry out a very exciting project and ceramist Marieke Kuijl is unique'marble' baking & turning tableware for us, where our guests will soon have their delicious organic desayuno (Spanish for breakfast) to be served. In short: almost all products you find in the guest rooms and the spaces around it (down to the napkins) are small pieces of art and in most cases for sale (although we will probably regret the latter ;-)).

And this is just the beginning. Because new designers will be continuously involved throughout the season. Work will be sold and new work and/or new artists will take its place.

THE EVENTS
The location of Siempre Agosto is spacious and has several guestrooms in addition to the guestrooms aeras which makes my (event) hands itch. There is a large orchard full of orange & mandarin trees, where you can enjoy fantastic lights under strings of lights guest table can organize (with long laid tables with unique cloths from different textile designers and tableware from local ceramic artists (sorry, I'm rambling on). The enormous rooftop with amazing views over the entire area Morna Valley is ideal for yoga retreats or an artist's workshop. And the patio is ideal for an exhibition of a new one artist (and then we will do the vernissage party at the pool area with lounge and outdoor kitchen).

In short: those events will happen, you understand that. And both for B&B guests, but certainly also for local friends (because it's a bit extra hedonistic leute on the floor is of course not a bad thing for all those artists... look, win/win, double check!)

But before all those wild event plans start, we will be very busy in the coming months to get everything done for the B&B guests. The paintings have to be shipped, the kimonos have to be tried on, we are going to Morocco to buy and to Milan for design week. A selection of vintage design furniture has to be made, designers are going to visit, cushion covers have to be sewn (thanks mom) and we have to treasure hunt at the local flea market. Anyway, it really looks like an episode of Ik Vertrek. But much more fun.

Because we are indeed going to report on this entire process (God save me). Not at Ik Vertrek, but here on your own Bart's Booklet. In the coming months you will regularly encounter updates here about 'the making of' the B&B (or is it not actually G&G?) Finca Siempre Agosto.
