Il Santo Bevitore, Florence (food and drink)

Il Santo Bevitore, Florence (food and drink)

Restaurant Il Santo Bevitore stole our hearts in Florence. The food, the service, the atmosphere… Everything was perfect.

We went for an onion tarte tartin Starter, a good piece of meat with a perfect sauce as the main course, and afterward, a sage crème brûlée. Not the obvious choice, just a little bit different, and above all, very tasty. And above all, the service is top-notch. The waiters appear at exactly the right time, know which wine you need (without immediately slapping on a ridiculous price tag), and even your dog (if you've dragged one along to Florence) gets a treat. no time a bowl of water for his snout.

A nice bonus: in the noisy restaurant (okay, one small point for improvement: the acoustics aren't great), the tables aren't crammed together. There's plenty of space, which creates a sense of privacy and a touch of romance. The dark interior, the candles, the attentive service, and the divine food make this a place you definitely need to make a reservation for.

Enoteca Pitti e Cantina, Florence (food and drinks)

Enoteca Pitti e Cantina, Florence (food and drinks)

Did you visit the same restaurant twice during a city trip to Florence? Then you know: this is a winner. Enoteca Pitti Gola e Cantina is such a place. This intimate wine bar is located directly across from the impressive Palazzo Pitti. Once built to outshine the Medici family (just Google it), it's now the setting for your dinner: you'll literally be dining with a view of a piece of Florentine history. But what makes Enoteca Pitti Gola e Cantina truly special? The wine. The wine list is carefully curated, featuring bottles from small, often local producers. The staff knows their stuff (and you can taste it). Tip: choose the menu with paired wines. Each course offers a new surprise, always spot-on.

In the summer, you can sit outside on a tiny terrace with six tables (max. 12 guests). Inside, it's cozy and stylish: a dark green bar, ceiling-high wooden cabinets brimming with wine bottles, and even on the way to the bathroom, there's something to discover (yes, even more wine).

The food? There's a truffle menu. Although, "truffle menu" is an understatement. Everything is generously sprinkled with truffle. The pasta, in particular, is finger-licking good. Or go for a fresh salad with watermelon, tomato, and mozzarella that's so flavorful you'll be disappointed when your plate is empty. Or the tuna tataki, which does exactly what a good tataki should: tender, fresh, perfect.

Finish with a tiramisu and, surprisingly, without coffee. They don't serve coffee here. The message is clear: give us another glass!
