5x Best of Cologne: food, drinks, shopping
Berlin, Dusseldorf, Hamburg? Feel free to add Cologne to that. A 3-hour train ride from Amsterdam makes you feel like you're in a wonderful German city. Provided you know where to be. Read on and book that trip.
Never before have you seen such a retro interior as when you walk into Hallmackenreuther. Bucket seats, round balls on the ceiling and a very cool atmosphere. You go to Hallmackenreuther for breakfast, lunch or dinner, but also everything in between. There are a few tables in front of the building where you can sit in the sun and look out over a small square (plenty to see).
In the west of Cologne city centre you will find Bredouille. A lovely cosy wine bar – with a few seats – that feels warm. Here you will find the most delicious bottles of wine by the glass from 4 pm with delicious snacks to go with it. In the weekend the party starts a little earlier, so the fun can start early.
In addition to the regular menu and lovingly compiled wine list, fun, special evenings are sometimes organized. Such as a vinyl and wine evening or evenings with live music.
Color, funky designs and delicious accessories. You can go wild at Fairfitters. There are no fewer than two locations in the city.
In this clothing store you can find a complete outfit, from socks to jacket, from cool sweater to nice dress. The store has a raw and Berlin-like feel and therefore fits perfectly into the German street scene.
Are you looking for a last minute souvenir? Fair fitters got you covered with their wonderful accessories, fanny packs, jewelry or other fun things.
A piece of clothing for the mini? The nicest children's shop in Cologne can be found on Antwerpener Straße.
At Schaatzi you will find the nicest items that they produce themselves (with a little help), but also other German brands that we did not know existed yet, such as Bebe Holic and Melikey. Let it remind us of a mix of print with calm colors and basics.
You can also come in for beautiful gifts. They have the most beautiful cuddly toys, items for the nursery or useful accessories on the way.
Are you looking for old Dutch conviviality, but in German style? Then you go to Café Franck. Franck is located in the new, upcoming part of Cologne (with plenty of other nice places around it). Here you will find nice bars, coffee shops, but also unique clothing stores.
You can't go wrong either, because many young families and students live in this neighborhood. Then you know you're in the right place.
At Franck you can enjoy Frühstück (breakfast) but also a delicious lunch. The retro vibe completes it.
