Picking flowers! Nice spots in the Amsterdam region
When planning an outing with our little ones, we enjoy it most when we have fun ourselves. It's even more fun when they learn something from it too. Why not go flower picking, for example? Often, alongside the necessary flora, you can also admire some small fauna: hello bees, butterflies, and other fun flying creatures. Impressive for both little and big observers. Go flower picking! These are great spots in the Amsterdam region.
During the long weekends or days off that this coming month has in store for us, there is nothing better than a day out. A day at the beach, getting a breath of fresh air in the dunes, a walk in the woods. Or pick tulips in the flower region. The Keukenhof may still be closed, but a short drive away makes you feel like you're in a Keukenhof mini version. Nice to meet you, Annemieke's picking garden in Hillegom. And please note, you can pick your own here. Rows of colorful tulips are blooming together and you can go wild and collect a nice bunch yourself.
Flowers, bees and butterflies! A unique spot, that is Vlindertuin Mot in Mokum. Deep in Amsterdam North you will find the garden where caterpillars and butterflies are cared for with great care and love. There are 'bee hotels' where you can peek at the creatures from the side, there is a dollhouse where you can look through a window at the hibernators (caterpillars and pupae! of course) and workshops are held for schools. There are even some crazy houses where you can spend the night! A dream spot that few people know about, and that secretly makes it even more fun. Sshjtt.
Well, we found another one! If you are still looking for a nice outdoor spot where you can combine lunch, cake or tea and pick a portion of flowers: De Sfeerstal is the place to be. In Nieuwveen this is about 35 kilometers from Amsterdam, which takes about half an hour by car. And then you also have something!
The atmospheric stable is a tea house with a picking garden. You get there by following small roads from the A4 (if you come from The Hague or Amsterdam). The place looks cozy (yay) and it is: everyone can appreciate a dose of cuteness from time to time, right?
In the rural area of Bakkum, about two kilometers south of the Egmond Abbey, you can pick many types of flowers from early spring to the last weeks of autumn. Go out into the field with a bucket and scissors to put together a bouquet yourself, it doesn't get any better than that. In the spring there are tulips and in the summer a wide variety of cut flowers. Buckets and scissors are available at the picking garden. Also nice: Pluktuin Bakkum also organizes activities for groups and children's parties.
Not much further away is De Plukweide, an attractive flower field on the outskirts of Haarlem, along the Spaarne in Schalkwijk. Here the flowers are grown naturally and you can pick your own bouquet. De Plukweide is located in a public community garden, where everyone is welcome to enjoy the flowers at their own time.
When the season is here, there is little more fun than picking apples The Olmenhorst estate in Lisse (near Hoofddorp). The apple picking (you can also go there with your whole class or for a birthday party!) takes place in September and October, but there is plenty to do on the estate the rest of the year as well. The perfect place for little apple farmers to take a break.
If you have one of those, a small apple farmer, can we also have the apple cookies from NaturNes Bio recommended? Extremely tasty and they are sold in a handy resealable bag that you can take with you wherever you go. Nice too, for in the car. Try to keep it off yourself!
