De Wielewaal Estate: a hidden piece of nature on the edge of Eindhoven

Eindhoven, the craziest! We all know it. But did you know there's more? Yes, there is. If you want to escape the hustle and bustle, you'll find it on the outskirts of the city. De Wielewaal EstateFor years, privately owned by the Philips family (yes, the Philips family), but open to the public since September 2025.

The estate's name? It comes from the golden oriole, a rare yellow bird that feels completely at home here. And we agree. Here you'll find 144 hectares of forests, avenues, fens, and historic gardens. Walk, cycle, and get lost in the greenery... leave the cars and bustle of the city behind. Peace and quiet and nature are the main features of this beautiful place.

What's about to happen?

The country house from 1934 is now a real eyecatcher, and will soon gain even more charm. Currently, there are hardly any amenities on the estate (except for some benches and trash cans), but in the spring of 2026, a complete visitors center will open on the Wielewaal, complete with a chic restaurant, bistro, boutique hotel, and wine cellar. Yes, Restaurant Tribeca (2 stars!) is moving here, so that promises something. Lunch, overnight stays, wine tasting... we'll keep you posted!

For now (and luckily in the future too) you can go to the Philips Fruit Garden For a snack. A top tip in our opinion, especially with children. In September, you can pick your own apples and pears here. Year-round, you'll find delicious regional products in the farm shop, and at Pancake House de Proeftuin, you can enjoy lunch, drinks, or pancakes. Outside, there's a large terrace with cozy picnic tables and a small playground for the little ones. kids.

Walking, picnicking, relaxing: it's all possible. And no worriesEven without children, it's a wonderful place to enjoy yourself. The grounds cover no less than twelve hectares, planted with apple, pear, and plum trees – plenty to see, taste, and do.
