Not for the kids: Les Hamaques, Girona, Spain (and a tip for those who have the small stuff with them)

Located in the northeast of Spain, just below the French border near Girona hotel Les Hamaques, a (relaxation) resort four minutes from the nearest town, Sant Martí d'Empúries. And, not unimportant, a stone's throw from the Costa Brava – the unspoiled part.

The concept of Les Hamaques is based on the French chambres d'hôtes, a small-scale accommodation furnished as if you were staying at someone's home, but with the privacy of a hotel. Finding the address takes some effort, but that is a good omen: undisturbed lounging in a perfect picture ahead. Owners Dominique (interior designer) and Ino (journalist) run their guesthouse with passion: when you step through the narrow gate into the quiet garden, you enter the intimate world that the two have expertly created. The garden is full of pots of lavender, there is a rustic table under a pergola, there is a swimming pool and, of course, hammocks in the trees.

There are seven rooms, each named after a flower. The Magnolia Room is directly connected to the garden, the Glicina has a private terrace and the Suite Bambú has a small bamboo garden. Time has stood still there, and yet it hasn't, judging by the presence of all the new gadgets. Please note: Les Hamaques is not suitable for children. Not much further away, the kids are welcome at Hostal Spa Empúries in L'Escala. In fact, there is even a playroom where you can leave them under supervision.
