Shed 5

Shed 5

What started out as a factory outlet in 1999 has grown over almost 25 years into one of the most famous and most inspiring home furnishing stores in the Netherlands. And if we're honest, the Shed 5 location in Maastricht is completely in our hearts: the store is located in the old Sphinx factory, and it took no less than three years to renovate it, of course while retaining all the historical heritage. It is the vibrant center of the Sphinxkwartier and a source of inspiration inside and out. The charm of this industrial Southern Dutch heritage in combination with contemporary home furnishings. Ah, you're already gone.

Loods 5 is known for their inspiring shops in different styles: it is actually impossible to find anything to your own taste and leaving empty-handed is almost impossible.

Wyck & Ceramique

Wyck & Ceramique

When you walk from the station towards the Maas, you stroll through the neighborhoods Ceramique en Wyck. Here you will find a lot of delicatessen and specialty shops, plenty of places to get the first bite of the day. Located on Rechtstraat Wine shop Wyck where, in addition to organic and sustainably produced wines, antiques are also sold. Tab is a butcher's shop with a hidden restaurant behind the butcher's shop. Also at the cafe Ceramique you can eat well: many dishes on the menu are vegetarian, but at Ceramique they do it the right way. Creative and slightly different, such as the kohlrabi carpaccio with Bloody Mary dressing.

The Founders Bar

The Founders Bar

The Founders Bar, which is barely visible from the outside, is part of it Hotel Beaumont. When you have dropped off your coat and step over the threshold, it feels a bit like you have arrived on a film set from the 20s. Including those special types of guests that make you wonder how they ended up there. You can fantasize about it while you sip a cocktail at the bar that is shaken in front of you by the friendly bartenders.

Townhouse Design Hotel

Townhouse Design Hotel

You hardly even have to cross the Maas to fill your day. It is housed in an old mansion somersaulting distance from the station and The Founders Bar Townhouse Design Hotel. Here they take hospitality to a higher level. When you arrive you will be welcomed with a cup homemade soup and in the evening a special nightcap is served. Not that you need it, because the rooms and beds are very comfortable. In the 'living room', where breakfast is also served, you will find plenty of cozy corners and a fireplace. When you register as gourmet you also get a discount on your weekday stay!

Inner city

Inner city

In addition to the well-known chains, shopping centers and Dominican bookstore, one of the most beautiful (and busiest) bookstores in the world, located in a former church, you will also find smaller boutiques and concept stores. Wonderwood is a store we could live in. Full of plants and vintage interior items that are all for sale. We would have liked to take the orange arc lamp home with us, just like the rest of the stuff.

Jeker quarter

Jeker quarter

The program Jeker quarter is also called the Latin Quarter of Maastricht and we understand that comparison. The narrow picturesque streets are packed with cozy bars and restaurants. Clichee Street Food and Bar on the corner of Koestraat is highly recommended for exotic food streetfood and cocktails. Located on the same street The Cheese Bar, and when you walk around the corner you arrive at The Bisschopsmolen, the place to be for a slice of Limburg pie.

Marres & Marres Kitchen

Marres & Marres Kitchen

Marres is a house for contemporary culture in the Statenkwartier. In the former home of the beer-brewing Marres Family you will find a Mediterranean restaurant and small-scale museum. Here they want to show that art goes beyond works hanging on the wall. The exhibitions are therefore very focused on the senses and the relationship between your body and the art. Workshops are regularly organized in the public garden (the largest in Maastricht!), where you can sit on the terrace in the summer.

Sphinx Quarter

Sphinx Quarter

The program Sphinx Quarter is the raw part of Maastricht and is somewhat reminiscent of Berlin in terms of atmosphere. Coffee roaster Blanche Dael is located in one of the industrial buildings. The coffee they roast here is top notch and is used by various places in the city. Located on the roof of the roastery fine dining restaurant NOVO New Dining where you eat and drink three or five courses with matching wines. A little further away Lumiere Cinema, a movie house and restaurant with views over the city's historic inner harbor.

The SocialHub

The SocialHub

The Sphinxkwartier owes its name to the pottery factories on the site (which used to be managed by manufacturer Koninklijke Sphinx, that's why). Ceramics are no longer made there and the former factory spaces have made way for hotel rooms. When you get in The SocialHub you can still feel and see that everything used to be different. The lobby is enormous and you sleep in spacious, practical rooms with high ceilings. Located on the roof of the hotel Bold Rooftop Bar where you can have a drink before you roll into your nest. Here too you will receive a discount on your weekday stay when you register as gourmet. In any case, it is highly recommended to have a bite to eat at The Social Hub. A very nice menu with Asian-fusion dishes with many vegetarian options and good cocktails.
