Pillows Luxury Boutique Hotel on the IJssel in Deventer
Deventer, oh Deventer. We have written about this beautiful, cozy Hanseatic city on the IJssel many times before and we will simply add our two cents. Because Deventer is hot and sleeping in the Pillows Luxury Boutique Hotel in Deventer is, if possible, even hotter.
We drove on a beautiful late summer day towards Deventer and that was a party in itself. Through the fields and surrounded by water, the Netherlands is so beautiful. The Pillows Luxury Boutique Hotel on the IJssel in Deventer is located in a 19th century villa, beautifully renovated and surrounded by greenery. You can park your car for free (!) in the parking lot next to the hotel. And there is a ferry that takes you from the hotel across the IJssel to the center (until late in the evening) in about 5 minutes. Nicely arranged!
We started our visit with a glass of bubbles in The Living, the restaurant in the conservatory of the hotel. The perfect place for a drink and a bite according to the hotel and we couldn't agree more. With a fabulous view over the IJssel, the historic skyline of Deventer and good company, you can spend hours here. However, we had to go to the other restaurant of the hotel (IJssel Restobar), where we were completely pampered by chef Wouter van Leeuwen. Not a punishment, we can tell you.
Do you only want desserts? Or share main courses? A nice snack, or a classic starter, main course and dessert? Everything is allowed! We went for sharing a number of starters (ok, and a few desserts) and we don't want to leave the Oysters Rockerfeller with spinach and parmesan and the Cauliflower kibbeling unmentioned. As if an angel is peeing on your tongue! The more than sweet and friendly hostess was an enthusiastic wine lover who made the evening complete. In short: an evening to remember.
Mood lighting on, soft carpet under your feet, the radio quietly playing music and the curtains open so you have a view of Deventer by night. Not bad to enter your room like this! Everything exudes understated luxury. From the furniture to the art on the wall; it's right.
Especially in the morning, get out of your delicious bed on time, because you don't want to miss breakfast. Try to enjoy this on the terrace. With a view over the IJssel and the sun on your face, this is the icing on the cake of a wonderful stay.
We were already fans of the other Pillows Hotels (like this one in Ghent) and the Pillows Luxury Boutique Hotel on the IJssel in Deventer is one for you wishlist. Trust us.
