Eating out in Amsterdam: these are the nicest restaurants in Amsterdam West
You can eat out on every street corner in Amsterdam. The quality is not great everywhere, so we are happy to help you on your way. We wrote about it earlier the best places to get a bagel, pancakes, dim sum, Korean BBQ, Indian restaurants, and we made an extensive overview with our favorites throughout the city. Today we zoom in on Amsterdam West.
Here you go, the nicest, tastiest and coziest restaurants in Amsterdam West at a glance.
Simple in the best sense of the word. That is Bar Central. Restaurant and wine bar. In addition to the name, the interior is also simple. Dim lights, standard pub furniture, you know the drill. However, the food here is very good, as is the wine. There's no other option if you are the brother of wine bar Glouglou.
Compartir, Bar Compartir, in the Spaarndammerbuurt Amsterdam west is hot. After a start in lockdown - C times - Compartir is the place to be. De place for a good drink, nice dinner or a quick bite. This wonderfully cozy place makes you forget about time. The nice design, downstairs bar and a narrow staircase to the top (where more people can sit), makes it look cozy and cozy.
She, and then 'she' is the people behind Café Beurre Amsterdam, were not yet open or we were already smitten on the lovely blue-and-white interior of the small, initially inconspicuous business in Amsterdam's StaatsliedenTurn. Café Beurre is located on a corner there, with a partly covered terrace, on the Van Limburg Stirumstraat. Good news, because we didn't have anything like this in the area before. Something like that? Yes. A restaurant with nothing but vegetarian dishes and a heck of a wine list. For the vegetarians and certainly also for the non-vegetarians! That's how it can be done.
Uncomplicated food, small menu, and everything tasty and cozy. More (we think) a person doesn't want. At Felperlaan in Amsterdam West they know how to keep it simple, and extremely tasty. Accessible but a real night out. You get the idea. The owners of Mundi opened this new gem of a restaurant and have an impeccable sense of what people (read: we) want(s): good food and drinks and great service. And that on the edge of the Rembrandtpark.
The cozy little place is immediately noticeable due to the large windows. And: Felperlaan is not located on Felperlaan. Why not? No idea, we wanted to ask but completely forgot because of the delicious food and the friendly service. Oops. Next time.
It doesn't matter at all: the restaurant is more than worth a visit!
28/12/2024: Unfortunately closed, but we are keeping our fingers crossed for a reopening!
An ode to the Amsterdam pub, look, that makes us happy. And that is the promise of Café Moos, the youngest member of the Amsterdam Goudvisch family. A place where it is accessible to everyone and just a lot of fun, all day, every day. A cozy neighborhood café, where they know how to throw a party. So Café Moos, in a cool corner building in the Spaarndammerbuurt (on Spaarndammerstraat).
Café Moos is, as mentioned, a member of the Amsterdam-known Fam. Goldfish. If that raises any questions, we are happy to give you a helping hand: this means that they are members of a catering family with family members such as Arie, Bonnie and De Fred's cousin. All of those fine, beautifully designed, no bullshit business in Amsterdam.
There are also more and more nice places in Amsterdam Nieuw-West. It takes some time to find this one hidden gems, but then you also have something. Located right on the Sloterplas, hidden among the greenery, Boathouse. You can go here for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The menu is extensive and filled with Italian dishes. From pizza to pasta to... tomato soup (recommended!). In the summer you can sit on the terrace on the deck where you look out over the lake and in the winter you move inside or have the fire pit on.
The Japanese – many Amsterdammers know immediately what you are talking about. In addition to this nice little place in West, you can also find them in De Pijp, Zuid and Strandeiland (IJburg). Inspired by the Japanese izakaya – an accessible café where you share small dishes. Actually just a Japanese tapas bar. Not Spain, not Japan, but right here in Amsterdam on the Bilderdijkstraat.
On the menu? Sushi of course, but especially warm, small dishes that you keep ordering. Chicken katsu (a big favorite), bao buns and Japanese style beef steak. Well, and at other Asian places we often miss a good glass of wine or a good drinks menu. No standard stuff here, but creative cocktails, mocktails, and of course a nice selection of sake (for the enthusiasts). In short, a place where you not only stay for the food, but also for the drinks.
If we don't go to Naples, Naples will simply come to us. At Pizza Beppe, you'll eat authentic Neapolitan pizzas: handmade dough, San Marzano tomatoes straight from the Vesuvius region, and Fior di Latte that's truly exceptional.
With nine locations spread across the city, each with its own atmosphere, you can always find somewhere to sit down, and in West, you can do so at the Nassaukade. The atmosphere? 'Cool & fine dining'. Culture, music, lifestyle, and pizza from top-notch stone ovens. Add plenty of craftsmanship and passion to that, and you're all set. It is not without reason that they were the first in the Netherlands to have the official Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana (AVPN) quality mark – no concessions, only authentic.
Buon appetito!
Swagger is an Asian restaurant in Tenkatestraat. The menu mainly contains small dishes from South-East Asia. Ideal if you are stressed about choice because you can order multiple dishes. In addition to good food, they serve good exotic cocktails here that the bartender makes especially for you.

We dedicated one before article to this one all time favorite, but also in this list Café Binnenvisser not missing. This restaurant is located on a very nice corner of the Bilderdijkpark. In the summer you can sit here on the terrace, in the winter it is also nice and cozy inside. There is a bit of a French atmosphere, but with the smoothness of Mokum. The service is friendly and knows a lot about the dishes on the menu. That's a nice one by the way, not only in terms of food but especially in terms of drinks. From classics to natural wines, the choice is enormous. This may not be the best option for big eaters, as the portions here are on the small side.
Bar Kosta in Oud-West is a nice place to have drinks, lunch and dinner. The extensive menu also includes a number of vegetarian options. In addition to food, you can also take pub quizzes, watch football and play games here, and weekend specials are regularly organized. They don't take reservations here (only for large groups), so you can just drop by and enjoy the atmosphere.
Located next to the Westergasfabriek in the Westerpark Pacific. A real one all day and night favorite. During the day you can sit here wonderfully, at night the feet go off the floor. Inside it is large and cozy, although in the summer we prefer to sit on the (almost) always sunny terrace. When composing the menu, the season is taken into account and if possible the dishes are prepared on an open fire. In addition to regular club nights in the weekend, there are also various events on a regular basis.
A golden oldie with a very large menu, that is Café-Restaurant Amsterdam. Now such a large menu is not always a good sign, but we have never ordered anything here that was not tasty. The restaurant is located in the former Machinepomp building near the Westerpark. So it is very large and high here and there is an industrial French atmosphere. Chic and cozy. A nice place to drink coffee and lunch during the day or to dine with friends in the evening.
You will find it in the Cremerbuurt Pizza Project. With this one Neapolitan Pizza Bar you eat the tastiest pizza in Amsterdam. The dough is proofed for 48(!) hours, making the pizzas extra airy. If you can't eat a whole pizza yet, secretly order the children's version. It's not very big inside, but it's nice and cozy. No hassle with dull knives or rollers because you can cut your pizza yourself here - à la Pippi Longstocking - with scissors. Nice place for one date night.
Another pizza! Always easy (especially with kids), not too expensive, and quickly on the table. nNea is located on the Bilderdijkstraat, so also very central. What more could you want? Good pizza of course, and you get it here! This restaurant is in the top 100 of the best pizzerias in the world, and is the only one in the Netherlands.
What is also nice is that they experiment nicely; classics with a twist, but the ingredients remain of the highest Italian quality. San Marzano tomatoes, mozzarella di bufala, very beautifull!
UMAMI by Han is a modern Asian restaurant on the Overtoom. Michelin chef Han Ji from HanTing Cuisine cooks fantastic food here. It all sounds fancier than it is, as the restaurant itself is very accessible. That does not alter the fact that the quality of the food here is very good. An important principle in Chinese culture is that food brings people closer together, and everything revolves around this social dining.
