Oh boy, how much we love real old chic. Not exactly manufactured but authentic places where you not only feel like a king, but where you are also treated like a king. Where the operators know how things should be done and have been operating as such for years. A bell with a musical tinkle at the reception where you come after the gentleman with the bright white gloves opened the door for you and the bell boy if a shadow managed to confiscate your suitcases in the night (in a good way; they're standing there, see?). Oh well, you get the point: we check in at Villa Spalletti in the ancient, beautiful Rome that cannot be compared to any city in the world. Honey, we are home!

Imagine having your own mega-super-huge-stately home in Rome. In the middle of Rome, ancient Rome. The bedrooms exude old-fashioned luxury, there is also a Harry Potter-style library (dust on the books, wonderful), there are communal areas where you could easily see a Dolce-Vita-Italian-film-star-of-old-time inside. steps and makes themselves comfortable and a small beautiful garden and ditto spa. This is important, as you really need to relax after a busy day of sightseeing. Enter Villa Spalletti Travelli Rome and you have it all. Promise. Admittedly, there are people who have to get used to the atmosphere. This has nothing to do with the new-fangled hotel industry such as that practiced at hotels such as the Ace Hotel, the Hoxton or SoHo House. And that is a plus. Don't get us wrong, we love the aforementioned, but if we have anything to criticize about them, it is that both the clientele and the staff (especially the latter) are occasionally a little too busy with themselves and fabulous that they sometimes overlook the customer (halllooohooo!). No no, just do this to us. Where they know what's going on.

In short, everything inside is in perfect order, and that also applies to everything (just) outside the door: the villa is located between Rome's most famous shopping street, the Via Nazionale traffic artery and the presidential palace (Il Quirinale). And pretty much everything, from the train station, the Colosseum and the Trevi Fountain to some of Rome's best restaurants, is within walking distance. But still... Villa Spalletti Travelli is above all about the experience. The looks are one thing, but the service is just as important. On that front it's the best place we've ever stayed. Here not only will your questions be answered and your transfer arranged, but everything will be done to meet your needs and requests. Do you have WiFi and no laptop? Then they'll just lend you one. Things like that.

The Villa's enormous spa has a beautiful Turkish bath (included in the hotel price), a gym (a personal trainer can be arranged) and a range of indulgent treatments (close your eyes and do nothing).

And although sometimes you find yourself in a scene of... A Night at the Museum running and frolicking kids are more than welcome in each of the 12 bedrooms on the first floor, and in one of the two gigantic apartments across the street. They are all decorated with the most wonderful colors and fabrics (love fabrics) so that, once again, everything feels equally rich. Pastel colors on the walls and bedspreads, Fiandra linen sheets on the bed and alpaca or cashmere throws on the sofas. The bathrooms are spacious and clad in marble from top to bottom and each room has both a bath and a shower – certainly not standard in Rome. Oh, and the well-stocked minibars are also included in the price.
