Saltmoore Whitby: a beautiful wellness hotel between the coast and the moors

We certainly don't call the English Whitby hidden gems: Anyone who is even a little familiar with Yorkshire has heard of Whitby Heard. But do we know many people who actually go there? Nah, not really. Until now, perhaps, because a stunningly beautiful wellness hotel has opened between the coast and the heathlands: Hotel Saltmoore, Whitby.

After a thorough renovation of the former Raithwaite Estate on Sandsend Road in Whitby, North Yorkshire, the new Hotel Saltmoore has opened. And we're hooked: the renovation cost (we understand) a mere £10 million, but it's worth it: a beautiful wellness-focused retreat nestled between the North Sea and the Yorkshire Moors.

The hotel is located on Sandsend Road (YO21 3ST), nestled between the wild heathlands and the sea. Sandsend Beach is right on the hotel's doorstep, while Whitby town center is a short drive away. Dive into the salty sea at Sandsend Beach, put on your hiking boots for a stroll through breathtaking North Yorkshire, explore Whitby's pubs, or simply never leave your hotel room – those are the flavors. And they're all equally delicious.

By the way, we do have that again off the beaten track places in Whitby where you can leave the rest of the (day) tourists behind and experience the local stuff do. Like your portion of fish & chips, for example. Don't get it at the Magpie (even though everyone tells you to go there, but don't do that), but at trench coats, opposite the War Memorial. Would you rather not have fish & chips? Good, because then you have extra room for a pulled pork sandwich Greedy Pig. It's down a small alley and a bit hidden, but totally worth the reward after a bit of searching.

You will find a range of boutiques, charity shops and other places where you can find the most beautiful things. Favorite is Rooms, a wonderful family business with all kinds of beautiful things: colorful carpets, unique Chesterfield-style armchairs, pewter lamps, and tweed doorstops.

With options to filter your accommodation by reviews, amenities, location, and other criteria, you can easily find the perfect choice that perfectly matches your needs and preferences.

Saltmoore offers rooms in both the main building (Saltmoore House) and The Beach House. We'd choose the main building, but all the rooms are lovely, bright, and relaxing. As befits the wellness concept, of course. And did we mention the spa itself? The wellness center is literally and figuratively the heart of the hotel. There's a beautiful indoor pool, in addition to all the other spa amenities (hello, two-hour massage). Access to the spa costs £45 per person for 3 hours per day. And yes, you can even stay overnight. The same goes for the restaurant, which serves seasonal dishes. 10 points. By the way, upon arrival you receive a glass of sparkling tea, which is much more delicious than it sounds. trust us.
