Winter sports destinations in SalzburgerLand for those who want more than just skiing

Winter sports are snow, but snow is not just winter sports. 'We are going on a winter sports holiday' is often another sentence for 'we are going to make as many kilometers as possible on the skis every morning and afternoon for a week'. And that's such a shame, because there is more to do. Much more. There are so many activities for the non-skier, for the kids after skiing (when they still have a bit of energy) or for anyone who wants some variety. In SalzburgerLand There are about seventy villages, all of which have their own range of winter activities. The choice here is really huge, trust us. These winter sports destinations in SalzburgerLand are for those who want more activities than just skiing.

And.... read on to find out how you can win one of the winter sports trips.

SalzburgerLand

SalzburgerLand

We will take you to SalzburgerLand. Imagine: white mountain peaks and valleys, snow-covered pine trees in the Hohe Tauern National Park, perfectly groomed slopes with crunching snow. Winter sports as it should be. Snow, check. There are about seventy villages in SalzburgerLand, each with its own range of winter activities. Sneak Peek: think of cross-country ski trails, fun and snow parks in more than thirty places, more than a hundred toboggan runs, winter walks and so on...

Boredom is therefore impossible, but is it also fun? Are we giving away enough if we say that people here are simply in love with winter? That love certainly doesn't come out of the blue. We can call SalzburgerLand the cradle of winter sports, because they have been skiing here since 1894. They also do well in the culinary field. Okay, last plus: it is also easily accessible.

But of course we are here for the activities outside of skiing. Then these three regions in SalzburgerLand are definitely recommended:

Flachau

Flachau

Flachau Of course we know it from the Hofstadl, the well-repaired slopes and the nice descents. Flachau is located in the heart of Ski amadé, the largest Austrian ski paradise. The Panorama Link has been in place for a number of years, connecting Flachau, Wagrain and St. Johann. For those who do diehard are skiers, go 12 Peaks Trophy. That is a ski tour from Alpendorf to Zauchensee, where you go over twelve mountains, through five valleys and have to conquer no less than 10.000 meters of altitude.

Not so diehard? Then come those activities we talked about. Hiking and cross-country skiing is number 1. Sounds lame, but it isn't. Certainly not if you have more than 200 kilometers of trails for cross-country skiing in and around the village. Still need a little adrenaline? You can also take a Segway tour through the snow or take a ride with a snow groomer. A nice toboggan run is the Rodelbahn Lucky Flitzer. And how about a romantic horse-drawn sleigh ride through the white landscape?

Wildkogel Arena

Wildkogel Arena

If we use the Wildkogel Arena can describe in one word: 100% as a family ski area. Besides the fact that 85% of the slopes here are red or blue, it is so versatile. You can go tobogganing there, there are attractive restaurants and, to top it all off, the national park is good for days of entertainment. In that national park you can, for example, take a walk guided by a National Park Ranger through the Hohe Tauern Park. Nice for the kids is to see how wild animals are fed.

En best of all is that you can combine many of those activities. A ride on the longest illuminated toboggan run in the world is even more fun in the evening. The track is open until 22.00 p.m., but afterwards you can of course have a drink.

And the list goes on. You can also opt for a wonderful snowshoe walk or a romantic walk with torches. A must try is the 'Snow Tube', part of the Wildkogel Active program. Then you leave the slopes with a kind of swimming ring (we can't describe it any easier).

It is difficult to remain sustainable in winter sports areas, we know that. But just like other ski areas in SalzburgerLand, Wildkogel-Arena thinks along with the next generation. There is the 'eLINER', the electric train that takes you from the end of the valley descent back to the valley station of the Wildkogelbahn.

Good to know: 85% of the slopes in SalzburgerLand can also be covered with artificial snow.

St. Johann in Salzburg

St. Johann in Salzburg

St. Johann in Salzburg may not mean much to you, but it is located about 60 kilometers south of Salzburg. This area is also ideal for families (because there are so many blue and red slopes), but experienced skiers can also get their work done. For example, take a healthy ski tour in the middle of the Salzburg mountain landscape (win-win, because it is good for body and mind).

Just like in Flachau, the horse-drawn sleigh rides here for a ride through the most beautiful winter landscapes. And of course tobogganing, because in St. Johann in Salzburg you can slide down both during the day and in the evening. In the mood for a less active activity? The shops here are also good for hours of entertainment.

The advantage of St. Johann in Salzburg is that the area is only 55 kilometers from Salzburg airport. So you're in it no time.
