We love Scotland: from the Highlands to the Lowlands

It's quite a statement, but we may think Scotland is the most beautiful country in the world. Breathtaking landscapes, rugged coastlines, lochs and lakes, folklore, super friendly locals and ok, the pub culture also plays its part. The sun may shine a little less, but all that greenery is good for the weather, plus there's nothing better than popping into the pub after a long walk. for some grub & whisky.

The new autumn collection from Summum, Home in the Highlands, is exactly what Scotland stands for: bright red of the kilts, powder gray of the sky and earthy tones of the nature around you. Last August 16, Summum released this collection, so be sure to take a look!

Scottish Highlands

The Scottish highlands are by far the largest area in Scotland, about half! From Arran to the Hebrides to Aberdeenshire, which means lots to do and see. The best season to visit Scotland is perhaps autumn: nature turns beautiful red and orange, the midges (very annoying mosquitoes) season is over and you have the perfect combination of sunshine and the moody, gray days that you prefer. spends in the pub.

Speyside Whiskey Walk

Walking and whisky, the ultimate combination. Especially if you have the Speyside Way Whiskey tour runs. No less than 116 km (although you can also walk shorter distances) from Buckie on the shore of the Moray Firth coast to Aviemore and Kincraig on the edge of the Cairngorm mountains. You will find around fifty distilleries in this area, so there is plenty of choice. Whether it concerns a certain dram or a walk. Is Scottish cuisine good? Of course! Hearty & warming, exactly what you need in the fall. Some dishes may not be for the faint hearted, but we won't tell anyone that you didn't want to order the haggis after all.

* Cullen Skink: a smoky fish soup with finnan haddie (cold smoked haddock), leek and potatoes; a real boost. At the fish market in Newhaven (Edinburgh) you can get a very good one, and for half the price of what you would normally find.
* Haggis: both infamous and famous. Sheep organ meat, mixed with onions, suet and oatmeal, used to fill a sheep's stomach. The Haggis Box in Edinburgh makes a good one, also for vegetarians and vegans.
* Whisky: a heads-up. Smoky, fruity, soft, sweet: there is a whiskey for (almost) everyone. Whiskey Bar in Edinburgh has a great collection, good live music and also serves haggis spring rolls, if you don't immediately all the way want.
* Cranachan: a layered dessert of raspberries, soft Scottish cheese (crowdie), heather honey and whisky, once invented to celebrate the raspberry harvest.
* deep fried Mars bar: um yes, exactly what it sounds like. You will find these snacks in the better snack bars. Tip: share one, because consuming such a unit on your own is almost impossible.

Auld Reekie (Edinburgh)

Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland, is packed with history and culture and has a beautiful medieval old town: hours of fun guaranteed! Highlights include Edinburgh Castle, the Royal Mile, and Arthur's Seat (views over the whole of Edinburgh!), but those are minor highlights. Of course we also have some hidden gems ready.

* Live music at Whiskey Bar on the Royal Mile is a highlight of an Edinburgh weekend, especially when the Gorms are playing.

* Channel your inner wizard cocktails at a magic potion/cocktail workshop The Cauldron Edinburgh. Cape on, wand at the ready and go. Really fun, also for muggles.

* Warm up and drink pints at the Jolly Judge: hidden in one of the many streets of Edinburgh. Small, cozy and with a fireplace.

Scottish Lowlands

Edinburgh is the largest city in the Lowlands, but that doesn't mean it's the only place you want to go. About an hour south you will find Galashiels, in the Scottish Borderlands. The village of Galashiels itself is not necessarily your final destination, but one of the cottages from The Yair yes: beautiful, British quaintness, almost all with a fireplace and there are various walking routes, straight from your house. Ideal for an outing in the fall, when nature is at its most beautiful.
