Skate café Amsterdam (North)
Skate cafe? Skate cafe? Isn't that something for your 15 year old nephew? Or for slightly older types who are stuck in that age category? Well, no. Am I crazy? Okay, I do know that there is a whole culture going on around skating, and that there are plenty of Very Nice boys and girls - even in my own perhaps not immediate environment - who are into skating. But hey, I just don't know them that well. Not really. So forgive my ignorance. Until food and drink are involved, then I suddenly manage to arouse interest and my bicycle (with me on it) all the way to the filled-in Hamerkanaal, near the Kromhouthal, De Goudfazant, FC Hyena, Hangar, etc.) in Amsterdam North. Because there is a new one there, the Skate Café. A new Amsterdam girl with some very nice words:
1) There is an indoor skating rink, right next to the tables. The X-factor of the site and of course the main attraction. 2) Nothing none too cool for school behavior: there are pink chairs. And plants. And nice music (read: everyone likes it). So what is it actually all about, of course? too cool for school is. 3) Since this week you can also go there in the evenings for a really good, simple meal thanks to Hugo and Kelly who now run the kitchen. 4) That doesn't cost you a donnie per plate. There are oversized El Pastor tacos (an open wrap actually) for 5 euros and a small curry for 7,50. There is a dish of the day for ten euros, which is leg of lamb with roasted potatoes, carrots and a honey-thyme sauce. They also have chicken noodle soup, as well as nachos and bitterballen. 4) When Hugo and Kelly are busy themselves, 'third parties' are invited, and then it's a ball. Like the Banchan Bandits who recently organized a Korean evening in the Skatecafé. Party. Oh well, totally fun. Skate cafe
