The nicest playgrounds and indoor playgrounds in Amsterdam: these are them!

I don't know about you, but family and friends from out of town sometimes feel sorry for kids growing up *in* the city. And in Amsterdam, at that. Now, it must be said that we really do understand what they mean—and you might feel the same way—but secretly, we are of the opinion that it really is a huge treat for those little ones: growing up in a city with the best parks and playgrounds everywhere! Playgrounds everywhere? Absolutely! We think these are the nicest playgrounds in Amsterdam. Will it be the slide or the swing?

WOPL!

WOPL!

WOPL! stands for World of Play & Learning and is a creative and interactive play world with various themed zones specially designed for kids up to 8 years old. You can count on hours of entertainment. Parents can also enjoy themselves on the sunny terrace with parasols and a nice menu. Bad weather? No stress either. Most of the fun takes place indoors, and the café is also a pleasant spot for parents. Even better? On Wednesday and Friday afternoons, there are always different workshops on offer. programThink of the Science workshops in collaboration with WOW Family Centre on Fridays, an Italian picnic afternoon, or a bracelet-making workshop. And while you're browsing around, take a look around: something extra is regularly organized here during holidays, vacations, and other special occasions. It is also ideal if you are out with a group of children or have arranged to meet up with other parents. The more children, the more playmates, and the longer everyone stays entertained. And do you need to organize a fun children's party soon? Then WOPL! is also the place to be. the place to be for both a summer and a winter party (and everything in between). From a decorated birthday table to a gift for the birthday boy or girl, and lemonade and fries, everything has been thought of.

Indoor playgrounds

Indoor playgrounds

Although the list below is really useful, we also admit that a little playground would be useful. Only one nice indoor playground… That's a different story. Don't worry: we have that too!

These are the nicest indoor playgrounds in Amsterdam

Car at hand? Or planning to take public transport? Then put this on your radar:

  • The Treehouse Club, The Hague
  • Wonderpark cafe, Amstelveen – a really nice café for us, and a really nice (tasteful) indoor playground for the kids.
  • Kidzcity, Utrecht – also one in the 'brightly colored ball pit' category, but everything here is just a little less overstimulated. And on top of that, there are quite impressive play equipment, fairground style - really fun and fun to combine with, for example Miffy Museum (really nice and well done) and/or it Railway Museum.

Terrace + playground in the park - yes please!

Terrace + playground in the park - yes please!

Number 1 for a drink with the kids: terraces in the park. And if there is also a playground nearby, such an address gets 10 points. We call The VerbroederIJ in Amsterdam North and we are fans 't New Deep in the Flevopark, on the outskirts of Amsterdam, wonderfully quiet and with a gigantic playground (Youthland!) among all the greenery of the city. 't Nieuwe Diep, a beautiful building dating from 1880, surrounded by water, fruit trees and a herb garden. A tasting room with good snacks. And of course Terrasmus, the very nice park pavilion in the Erasmus Park where it is always a good time, the staff is always pleasant and the cake is delicious. Moreover, you look out on the playground – handsome boy who can't last a (Wednesday) afternoon there.

Amsterdam Center

Amsterdam Center

Men's market 91: It is not really a well-kept secret, the small playground among the Amsterdam mansions hidden between the Haarlemmerstraat and the Brouwersgracht, but it is always remarkably quiet on a weekday. The playground is not large, but there are all kinds of cars and bicycles for the little ones to play with and that's a real treat!

Tweede Looiersdwarsstraat 11: Because we love the Jordaan so much... In the same neighborhood there is another beautiful one in a quiet street, thanks to the neighborhood that lovingly maintains the playground (so do the same!). They can slide, bounce on the chicken, play in the sandbox and there are loose toys for everyone to borrow.

UJ CLEAR

UJ CLEAR

Did you know that the oldest playground in the Netherlands is located in Amsterdam? It is! At least, if we are to believe the managers of the Uj Klaren playground (how nice that this city playground actually has a name, right?). You can find it in the Weteringsplantsoen in the heart of Amsterdam, and it is a wonderful place for everyone between the ages of two and twelve. That means for yourself too, because you can let them run free with peace of mind: there is a fenced-off area suitable for the very little ones, and another section reserved for the bigger kids (here there is a huge climbing frame and high swings which, let's be honest, a two-year-old can appreciate too – don't tell anyone).

Amsterdam North

Amsterdam North

Secretly, we think this is the best outing: cycling with the kids to Amsterdam North in nice weather. The ferry alone is always exciting, and then we're still nowhere. Without thinking, we always set course for the Noorderpark, a strikingly beautiful and wonderfully quiet park less than a five-minute bike ride from Amsterdam Central. The park has plenty of playgrounds, but of course also good places to eat and drink. And don't want to cycle? You can now finally just take the North-South Line.

Although the nature playground of NoordOogst also highly recommended! This is really a nature playground where the environment is used as much as possible. There is a water slide, a willow hut and a real climbing course in the trees. But also a sandbox in the shade and there are seating areas for a picnic, birthday party or neighborhood party.

Amsterdam Oost

Amsterdam Oost

Mariotteplein: The Facebook page of this playground proclaims "The nicest playground in East." It must be said: it really is very nice! The playground is huge (great, because there is always room, even during the holidays) and includes a football field, a basketball court, a table tennis table, swings, climbing frames, slides, a rocking horse, a seesaw, a water pump (nice in warm weather), and triple bonus points for the toilets and the little hut where you can get a snack.

Park hopping in East

Park hopping in East

The Flevo Park is one of the quietest parks in Amsterdam, with plenty of play opportunities. Don't tell anyone.

A little busier, but no less fun Park FrankendaelThere is a nice playground, but we think the park is at its very best when the regularly recurring Pure Markt is set up: a cozy traveling market that is broadly laid out and incredibly child-friendly. There are always special stalls for the kids and a carousel is usually wheeled onto the grounds, a very nice addition to the existing playground in the park.

But the most child-friendly park has to be the Oosterpark. There is a really nice playground with lots of wooden climbing and climbing equipment. Moreover, there is also a heck of a lot here wading pool. Thirsty parents enter the terrace of Hotel Arena.

Youthland Amsterdam is a well-known place, but no less fun: the Jeugdland site is a large and spacious play area in the middle of greenery. You can play, build and mess around, there is a small petting zoo, you can build huts and even grow fruit and vegetables!

Deep in Amsterdam East, in a fairly unknown, but certainly not unloved place, a water-lined playground was created: Play Park Blijdag. There was a climbing house and more typical playground equipment. Why so nice? It is strikingly beautiful and the place was made with love, you can tell that in everything.

Playground Wittenburg is also a big one and always a good one. Sandbox we fleek, and the same goes for the swings, the merry-go-rounds and the cable car. There is also a large lawn - nice for fathers and/or mothers who have packed a picnic basket, and there is a football cage where more than just football is played.

Amsterdam South

Amsterdam South

Playground Amstelpark: one oldie but still goodieYou can operate the excavator yourself, and slightly older children can have a blast in the Disco Boats. And yes, that is exactly what it sounds like. For the very little ones, there is a fun sandbox and the well-known but never boring playground equipment. There is a small petting zoo home to chickens, goats, pot-bellied pigs, ponies, guinea pigs, and rabbits, among others.

Just like at the Herenmarkt in the Jordaan, the playground at the Van Tuyll van Serooskerkenweg played with toys that the neighborhood collected together. There is a nice, large wooden house to climb into and the playground is pleasantly shielded from the road.

The no brainers

The no brainers

Anyone who talks about playgrounds in Amsterdam should not miss a few so-called No Brainers. The most famous playground is of course the playground in the Vondelpark. At the weekend we prefer to go around the block, but on weekdays it is a wonderful play area for the little ones and also an equally nice place to hang out and chat for yourself. On to the Vondel Garden.

Although the most famous is of course the playground Groot Melkhuis.

The. is located in the Amsterdamse Bos Goat farm Ridammerhoeve and that is really fun for young and old. There are of course goats, but also cows, horses, pigs and sheep that you can pet and, heck, there is also a very nice playground. For pancakes go to Farm Lake View, is nearby.

Fun Forest at the beginning of the Amsterdamse Bos (depending on where you start from, of course, but for us it's the beginning) is a great romp. From young to old (and we mean adults here, not preeners), everyone will have fun here. Fun Forest.

Artis

Artis

Duh! Artis of course! There's nothing like our own city zoo. If you are smart, you can purchase a subscription: then you can enter the park at any time and the zoo becomes much more your 'front yard' than anything else. Did you know that, for example, there are really fun painting lessons in Artis? Even for very small kids. Nice for a day, even more fun for every week if you ask us.

Amsterdam west

Amsterdam west

Van Beuningenplein: In the Staatsliedenbuurt, there is a surprisingly large playground where the sprinklers turn on during the summer months – double the fun! There are huge climbing towers, toys, and everything you expect from a playground, all enclosed. Also nice: you are close to both the library, where a fantastic kids' corner has been set up, and a cozy square where you can find the coffee shop Back to Black. Win-win!

JJ Cremerplein: Also a spacious playground in the middle of the houses in the west.

Al is The Rough Playground secretly many more favorites! On the corner of Jan van Galenstraat and Willem de Zwijgerlaan you will find it, the enormous playground equipment that looks more like a wooden spaceship than anything else, including swing ropes, shelters, pirate ships, tunnels and mountains of sand.

To Plan West nature playground You can also look for it, but get off your bike at Van Speijkstraat 65, go through the gate and you can't miss it. There is a climbing rock, there are water fountains and everything is green.

THE GIBRALTAR AMSTERDAM

THE GIBRALTAR AMSTERDAM

At a relatively unknown location on the Haarlemmerweg you will find De Gibraltar: a friendly hangout with a play area. A bit awkward, yes, but above all nice and no-nonsense and a place where everyone is welcome.

Inside there is a colorful collection of vintage furniture and you can drink a good cappuccino or a glass of limo in one of the cozy corners. An additional reason to visit this hidden spot in BoLo is the enormous playground. Little ones with disabilities can also have fun here because there is a wheelchair carousel and the slides are extra wide, so you can go down with your child. There is plenty on the program both at the weekend and during the week (crafts, yoga), so check the agenda on the site.

Frederik Hendrikplantsoen: one in the context of small but nice. There is just enough exciting equipment to keep the little ones playing around. Not too much fuss. A rack here and a seesaw there, but the surroundings are so lovely and it's a nice walk. Play outside, without showing off. Especially fun for kids aged two or three. Although the little ones can still eat sand in the box.

In Amsterdam West, near the Foodhallen (handy for a strong appetite after splashing and splashing). Bellamyplein major upgrade a few years ago. With a water feature where the kids can go wild. Win-win for the whole city if you ask us.

Westerpark

Westerpark

As it happens, we love spending time in Westerpark (there are about 3 small playgrounds to be found here, plus one that is too cute). wading pool for the summer months) as the little ones can run around here almost without a care in the world over a large area where there is always room to play. The nicest playground is located in two parts at the back of the park (seen from the center). One side is for the little ones, the other side for the slightly older kids. There is a childcare center in the middle, which makes you think that the playground is not accessible to everyone: wrong! Everyone is welcome.

If you walk further, you will recover Westerpark petting zoo. A small farm with cows, rabbits, horses, goats and pigs, and a nice playground! There is a cable car, slides and swings. There are bicycles available for grabs and parents can get something to drink in the shop.

The Wild West

The Wild West

Although the main prize goes to The Wild West, a little further into the greenery. A place where no child comes away without being covered in black (old clothes!) and where it is always insanely fun. You can sign up for one of the group activities (raft building and looking for animals), but for the very little ones, the playground equipment, hopping across the water (with mom and/or dad), walking through the exciting man-high reeds, and the thrilling zip line are already unforgettable.

Prinseneiland (next to the petting zoo)

Prinseneiland (next to the petting zoo)

Oh and this one is so cute too! On Prinseneiland next to the famous mini petting zoo (the Dierencapel), a small playground has been created with loose play equipment.
