SUITCASE STORIES: Maud Göttgens lives in Ibiza and inspires women with her Rise Up Club
Through Barts Boekje we are allowed to post plenty of (travel) tips and inspiration; but we also really enjoy sharing stories and travel tips from other travel-loving women. Hence the launch of SUITCASE STORIES, a platform within a platform in collaboration with SUITSUIT , where we share stories, learnings, inspiration and more.
Maud Göttgens left for Ibiza with her family in 2017 to spend a year there. Eight years later, she still lives there and inspires mothers with her RISE UP CLUB who are going through a break up to see opportunities again. We think that's great. That's why we took the opportunity to ask her everything about her company and favorite places in Ibiza and the Netherlands.
"We lived with our children (two and four years old at the time) in the heart of Amsterdam. The picture was complete: I had a cool job, a successful husband, a beautiful house and two beauties of kids, but I wasn't happyI was restless, overstimulated, on the verge of burnout, done with the rat race and with the city. I needed peace and wanted a freer life, in nature. In the Netherlands we couldn't find the right place, so we decided to go to Ibiza for a year. This was in 2017, we still live there now..."
Ibiza is known to many as party island. Now the big clubs have never been my thing, but I have to admit that I have really experienced the best parties here. Where I have come to terms with the cliché of dancing barefoot around a campfire sunrise also cannot deny. Been there, done that. And the hip hippie girls in long robes with feather headdresses, beating a drum in a yurt? I've seen them here in all shapes and sizes too.”
"But if you take the time to really get to know the island and go beyond the clichés, you will discover a side of Ibiza that is very authentic and pure. With truly magically beautiful parties and really fantastic healers. With deserted bays, fairytale-like organic farms, idyllic forest schools, laid-back picnics with friends on the beach in the winter months, the Saturday morning market where locals coming together and making music together. That charming authentic coziness. I love it.”
”RISE UP CLUB came into being after I and the father of my children unfortunately had to realize in 2021 that a break up between us was insurmountable. We had been living on Ibiza for a few years and I was in the middle of my own transformation process. One thing was very clear to me: I did not want to do this the 'divorce is suffering' way and end up on the couch as a victim, pointing at my ex with a bottle of wine. I wanted to see this process as an opportunity. An opportunity to grow and to become the nicest and most authentic version of myself again. For myself and for my kids.”
"I saw and spoke to more and more women around me in the same situation, and I felt an enormous strength in them too, a motivation to 'rise' from this situation in a positive way. I decided to set up a platform to connect these women and inspire them. That's how RISE UP CLUB. I regularly organize days and retreats in Ibiza and the Netherlands.”
"It's not really about that at all break up. Because that is just a catalyst, which ensures that you have to step out of your comfort zone, because you are suddenly on your own… This is about the process of (re)discovering who you are. Detaching yourself from limiting beliefs and old conditioning and thus creating a life for yourself and your children that completely matches who you are in essence. Discovering your true passion and really living it. For yourself, and as the best example for your kids. "
"Inspiring and supporting others in their transformation process turned out to be one of my great passions. I went back to studying. I have since graduated and I work both in Ibiza and in the Netherlands as a Transformation Coach. For RISE UP CLUB, but in addition, anyone else who feels that their life could or should be a little lighter or freer in some way can also transformation session book with me.
In the end I can honestly say that I am extremely grateful for my entire process. It has led to my very own RISE UP!”
”Honestly? Moving to Ibiza was the biggest travel hack. Throughout the year you can find everything you could possibly want here. traveler but you can wish for. And when we are in the Netherlands at Christmas and in the summer months, we truly enjoy bitterballen in a brown café and splashing through the puddles in our rain boots.”
"I personally prefer to go to a place where the kids being able to be outside all day and being creative and making friends. In the Netherlands, for example, these are Camping Abroad en The Lievelinge. I usually make sure that other fun, nice friends of mine are there too. I also go for ultimate quality time regularly out with one of the kids.”
"That is and remains my own Little Hideaway in LimburgI bought this cozy forest house after the divorce, renovated it and it is now a real safe haven for me and the kids, whenever we are in the Netherlands. In the summer months we find Ibiza too hot and too busy, so we prefer to stay here in the Limburg nature, where my original roots lie. (The rest of the year you can Little Hideaway in Limburg by the way rent, you can also find it in the latest edition of Little Escapes in the Netherlands)”
