The favorites of Team Barts Boekje: back to work essentials
Maybe you were away for the summer months, maybe you were just at home and your holiday is still coming (long live if you are not stuck with school holidays or the construction season...). No matter how you look at it: September always feels like a clean slate in terms of work and office life.
And then the question came: what can you really not live without in the office? Noise canceling headphones were a frequently mentioned office hack, but some other good tips also emerged. And what is really useful if you work from home or remotely a lot?
Voila, the favorite back to work essentials from Team Barts Boekje.
Actually, the essentials I can think of are mainly focused on the routine I maintain before the day starts. I start the morning with a train ride from Den Bosch to Amsterdam. Delicious. When I rush to the office, I put on a favorite podcast (like Grace Beverly or Savannah Jordan) while I eat breakfast. I take my yogurt with me in the BioLoco breakfast cup (tip!).
While I drink it, I chat with my colleagues before I get to work. Or actually there is another step in between. I'm quite chaotic, but to bring some order out of the chaos after a period of unrest (uh, August!), I buy a new planner or a notebook. A handsome one, such as the planner from Structuurjunkiebecause that gives extra motivation. I write down everything I have to do for the day in it, and then I just check it off.
Matcha is the new coffee. This Japanese green stuff is said to be full of healthy properties and will save you from caffeine palpitations. Dash of (vegetable) milk of your choice in the milk frother – or the best budget variant – and you can start your working day with some pampering.
To keep order, I use the free app T and a paper calendar slash notebook variant. Misc Store in Amsterdam has the most stylish agendas with plenty of space to write down your notes.
Mothering, working and being social is quite something. Oh yes, we also want to be fit and relaxed. Through the Mogy app you can take classes at home or at the office during your work break to become stronger and more relaxed. Now that's handy.
With the amount of books I go through on a monthly basis, I thought it was time to treat myself to the latest e-reader. And let me tell you, best decision ever. The Kobo Libra Color anything but disappoints. You can read in color, highlight, even take notes with a pen and it is a lot cheaper than the reMarkable.
In addition to being my favorite holiday attribute, it is now also my weapon of choice during working hours. Ideal for quickly scribbling down thoughts and taking notes during meetings.
Flip's tip: buy one immediately screen protector and (in my opinion) it nicest case at.
It took me a while to get used to it, but now I can't live without my noise canceling headphones. Not always pleasant, but it really makes me less distracted (otherwise I quickly start to get involved in everything). It's one Sony headphones, and I really like it for music, but I don't use it for calling.
Also ideal: the erasable pens from Legami. I still have an old-school paper agenda and it is a lot clearer now that I can simply erase canceled meetings and postponed to-do items. Literally never use another pen again.
The last tip may not be quite one essential, and you need to have an informal office policy – and luckily we have that here – but slippers in the office are a godsend, especially in autumn and winter! Sometimes you have an event later, and then you want to wear heels, but there's no way I want to listen to my own clack on the floor all day long (and neither do my colleagues). A solution. Very happy with mine yellow smiley slippers, but hey: you do you.
Here's the team that's spending the summer in the Netherlands and getting away again in the fall! So my back to the office essentials can actually be used all year round.
Now it seems as if we don't talk to each other in the office (nothing could be further from the truth!), because previously mentioned by colleagues and also indispensable for me, my noise canceling earplugs from JBL. The pink, what else. Put on a nice playlist or podcast ('Moordcast' is my favorite moment) and let's have a blast!
Furthermore, a fresh notepad makes me very happy. A to do list on paper just works best for me. Bee Søstrene Grene they always have nice ones.
A drawer full of delicious teas is also a must, otherwise I won't get through the day. Pukka has the tastiest in the most beautiful packaging.
I love to read during the train journey to work. Whether they are physical books or on my e-reader, it doesn't really matter that much. The first thing I do when I arrive at the office is make coffee. So one good coffee machine is a black. I could chat with the team all day long, so I put on my earphones Fresh 'n Rebel are the invention. Even when I work from home, I like to wear earphones, because (it won't surprise you) I also get distracted there by my two lovely cats, the neighborhood cats, or whatever it may be. Yet another invention, but mainly for the home, is a laptop table. Sitting at the table all day doesn't make me happy, so with a laptop table it is quite possible to sit upright even on the couch. Finally, I like to use one blue light glasses, because working all day on the laptop is (unfortunately) not always good for your eyes. winning in the future.
Um, well, it's a well-kept secret, but I'm a Red Bull (sugar-free) junkie, but I only drink them when they're ice cold, and only with a metal straw. I have the latter in every bag and in every pouch (not just useful in the office!).
Just like Anne, I swear by written notes and to-do lists, I really can't live without them. Not very original perhaps, but I also like a good classic, and that's where the... Moleskine notebooks the very best.
Finally: I consider myself an ambassador for the heating pads Stoov and I am very proud of that, because I think they are really indispensable for that cozy home at the office feeling. Read more: Stoov (in the office I especially want the Big Hug never miss it again).
Sitting still for too long is something I'm not good at. After a while of collecting all the books in the office to create my own pull-along standing desk, I was surprised with my own pink box that I still regularly take out of the cupboard. Not everyone is lucky with colleagues who make such a box for you, but one StanDesk is a great alternative. Or one (also pink) sitting ball, seems great to me too.
Furthermore, I always have mine glass Dopper with me. Now that it's still warm I hardly drink tea, but I have my sights set on one for the fall thermos flask.
During my bike ride (just 10 minutes) to work, I love to start the day with some cheerful tunes. Even though the trip can hardly be called a trip, music makes it extra gemütlicher. But not only on the bike, my bike also makes me very happy at the office airpods that help me concentrate and outzone for a while.
So, without music you wouldn't have a happy start to the day, but without water you certainly wouldn't have a nice (work) day either. With this extra large one Dopper insulated thermos bottle you get through every day well hydrated, and personally I have also fallen for the 'sophisticated' looks (as far as that is possible with a water bottle).
Also a nice tip for when you come home after a long day at work and feel like some inspiration aka self-development: the book The Creative Act by Rick Rubin. Also nice for on the bookshelf, or the coffee table or on the bedside table for one late night browsing session.
