The best Thai restaurants in Amsterdam
Amsterdam is a world city where you can taste whatever you want. We have put the best before Japanese, Indonesian, Italiaanse en Windows restaurants in a row, but a list of Thai restaurants was still missing. Time to change that; these are the best Thai restaurants in Amsterdam.
Man, how we miss Bangkok. Especially dining on a plastic stool on the street corner… Amsterdam is a food feast, but we were still missing Thai street noodles. Missed, yes, because Siam Bowl is here! At Vijzelstraat 97H, you can score the very best noodles here.
From the rich coconut curry of Khao Soi to the creamy heat of Tom Yum Nam Khon, the dishes are made the way they should be. They create delicious homemade sauces, work with authentic Thai herbs and spices, and work with that balance that is so important. Sweet. Sour. Salty. Spicy. Khao Soi is the absolute favorite. The sauce is prepared slowly so that the flavors can properly infuse. If you order it, it will be on the table quickly.
Party, because there are plastic stools, bowls of energy drinks, and staff that smiles!
Be sure to go to this place around the corner from the Overtoom: the panang curry is Amazing! And furthermore: a lot on the menu. From chicken and duck to curry and fish dishes. Soups, salads, and more. It's affordable too!
Second Constantijn Huygensstraat 64
Thai Thai Poppetje is highly recommended for anyone who wants to eat well and healthily, preferably without meat. The mother of one of the owners, a Thai born and raised, is in the kitchen. Half the battle. Furthermore, Thai Thai Poppetje, located in a residential area in the Baarsjes, isn't just for everyone who 'simply' likes Thai food: the kitchen serves dishes such as fried pangasius fillet with sesame seeds, lemon juice, and galangal with homemade sweet chili sauce, simple noodle bowls, 'Hor mok pla' (cod with red curry, coconut milk, and spices - simple and just right), papaya salad with dried shrimp powder (yum!), and 'Ma Hor Khao Tang Thod' for drinks, a kind of small rice cakes with cucumber – you'll want it.
Van Speijkstraat 157HS
Bar MASH is a tiny restaurant in the Pijp, around the corner from the Albert Cuyp market. Chefs Air, Iem and Sutchak are in the kitchen (not all at the same time, that wouldn't be appropriate) seven days a week to prepare Thai dishes and snacks. Outside on the terrace there is just a little more space and when it shines you can sit in the sun. Preferably with a beer, wine or cocktail from the carefully selected drinks menu.
The Zeedijk is a top spot for good food. We go there for these highlights: Hoi Tin and (Snackbar) Bird. The former serves Chinese and Cantonese cuisine, while Snackbar Bird is the place to be for Thai food. The menu at both is huge, the prices low, and the quality top-notch.
As the name suggests, it is food Top Thai Home to eat at home. This takeaway restaurant is located on Tweede Naussastraat and offers a delivery service for part of the city. You can check their website to see if they deliver to your area. It's a shame if they don't, but it does ensure that the quality of the food and delivery remains top-notch. Would you like to have that top Thai food on your driveway during your party? That can be arranged. After all, Top Thai also has a food truck.
Also Phu Thai on Koningsstraat is highly recommended for Thais takeaway. The focus is on takeaway, although there are also a number of tables in the store. Although they have made an attempt to make it cozy with the pink and purple chairs and checkered floor, it does feel a bit like you are sitting in a glorified snack bar. Not surprising, because it kind of is. The friendly people and the delicious food make it worthwhile to visit here.
Boy oh boy, before eating Boi Boi we like to go east. The chef of this restaurant worked for ten years at the aforementioned BIRD and combines the skills he acquired there with what he learned from his grandmother in Laos. The food is not strictly Thai but Laotian. The country and its cuisine are often overlooked, partly because of the many similarities with Thailand, but we will not soon forget Boi Boi.
