A picture of a hotel in Switzerland: The Brecon in Adelboden
A hotel that absolutely shouldn't be missing from Bart's Boekje list: The Brecon. A true feast for the eyes, this luxury hotel with a truly delightful interior in Adelboden, Switzerland. Don't expect a stuffy Alpine hotel with wood-for-wood-for-wood and old skis on the wall. And don't expect a stark, cold design hotel either. The Brecon sits right in the middle. Warm, homey, and with a clearly thoughtful interior. What. A. Beautiful. Hotel. mid century details, laid slate floors, soft fabrics and something nice to look at in every corner.
Adelboden itself is a mountain village you'll want to visit if you love nature, but don't want mass tourism. In winter, it's the perfect place for downhill and cross-country skiing, and in summer, it's perfect for hiking through the beautiful landscape. The village is located in the Bernese Oberland, with the impressive Wildstrübel Mountains as a backdrop. Winter attracts true snow enthusiasts with over 200 km of slopes. And in summer, the landscape transforms into a true hiker's paradise.
After a day in the mountains, you can dive into the spa: sauna, steam room, and a heated outdoor pool with mountain views (yes, that view). And after that? Nothing. Or maybe everything. Read a book, have a drink, gaze out the window. The hotel itself feels more like a very stylish home than a traditional hotel. Small, warm, and well-thought-out. The rooms are comfortable without being overly luxurious, but with just the right touches: comfortable beds, balconies with a view, and silence. Lots of silence. Food plays a major role here, but without too many complicated dishes on the menu. Everything is included and revolves around good food. Breakfast whenever you like, lunch after a day outdoors, a chef's menu in the evening, and then a cocktail by the fire.
