Upperbloom to the rescue: a green (and colorful) balcony without green fingers
Last week there was a garden on wheels in front of our office in the Jordaan. A garden? On wheels? Yes. We explain: Upperbloom, initiator of City Park Vertical, started with a major activation: the greening of the Randstad. A second Vondelpark is the idea, but... Why not in the air? There are no fewer than 1.000.000 balconies and roof terraces in the four largest cities in the Netherlands. A great opportunity to create cities that are so desirable, green touch to give. That is why Stadspark Verticaal challenges city residents to jointly open up 20 km2 of plants and flowers to form the first vertical city park in the Netherlands. Upperbloom to the rescue!
We previously gave you tips & tricks about it garden jobs in April. And in addition to that, you have the planters from Upperbloom no time a colorful balcony and all without green fingers.
Imagine that you are now cycling to work, your family or your grandmother. You will probably come across quite a few balconies and gardens along the way. What do they look like? You can probably already guess the answer. Most are gray and bare or are full of empty beer crates. How nice would it be if a spark of magic were added? Alice in Wonderland vibes, that's what we thought. As we said, Upperbloom's goal is to create a brighter streetscape, with minimal input against your maximum output. Not only for yourself, but also for your neighbor.
Step one: tell the Upperbloom balconies how many square meters your balcony, roof terrace or garden is. Based on this, you purchase one (or more) planter(s) once. Nice to know – these containers can take a beating (read: the Dutch weather). After you have selected your container(s), you can choose which flowers and plants you want in them. Do you have no idea and are you going into it completely blank? No problem. Upperbloom has a range of floral designers, plant experts and growers who devise and assemble plant sets for every type of balcony you can imagine. Then the balcony workers will come and install all the colorful things for you. Can you already see your balcony shining among the fluttering butterflies and buzzing bees?
Then last but not least: the care phase. Don't worry, this one is too easy peasy lemon sqeezy. The smart planters are made in such a way that the reservoir can hold up to three liters of water, which means that your babies are provided with the necessary liquid for about two weeks. Even smarter, with the water meter you can immediately see whether your plants need water or whether you should leave them alone for a while. Just sit down, have a glass of something and enjoy your greenery.
Now we can understand that from time to time you feel like getting a new, fresh one cool. That is also arranged in no time. You buy the Upperbloom planters with a plant set of your choice. Then in the future, if you wish, you can only buy the new plant sets (which cost between €18 and €26). The balcony keepers will visit you to collect the old plants (which are used for compost - no waste!), and leave the new plants you ordered with you. So you don't even have to dig your fingers into the earth; absolutely everything is arranged for you. And you can immediately bombard them with all the balcony questions you always had.
All well and good and 10+ points anyway, but... The benefits of this promotion are not just about appearance! There are all kinds of advantages to more greenery in the city. First of all, this increases our quality of life, we like! Greening ensures greater social bonding, better air quality and water management. For companies, this even leads to a more positive work attitude and higher productivity. In addition, Upperbloom also contributes to the circular economy. Plants that return after a change are processed into compost, reused for a new plant set or donated to hungry goats, for example. Upperbloom in turn has a collaboration with Green Construction Fences: the Upperbloom plants are given a second life on construction sites here, in order to make and/or keep the city beautiful there. It may be cliché but: the first step starts with yourself. Whether you start with one planter or renovate your entire roof terrace, every bit of greenery works wonders. In any case, we are totally fans and our office now shines (partly) because of the beautiful purple and yellow flowers from Upperbloom.
