Hidden gem: Bar Hotel Karel in Arnhem

oh Arnhem, a beautiful city and home to (among other things) the best fashion school in the country. And yet we don't often hear from this beautiful city in Gelderland. A shame, because this city is not only cozy but also quite hip (which may have something to do with that fashion education). We wanted to go there again, but... Where do we sleep? Search no longer. Bar Hotel Karel is always your answer, whether you are alone, traveling as a couple or when you are out and about with your family: Bar Hotel Karel is ALWAYS an ideal place to stay. trustus.

Bar Hotel Karel Arnhem

Bar Hotel Karel lies in the Spijkerkwartier, a very nice beautiful neighborhood with beautiful stately mansions and other beautiful old buildings at a somersault distance from the center of Arnhem (the Spijkerkwartier is actually also quite a center). A wonderful base to explore the city. And: don't underestimate the neighborhood! There is plenty to do in the Spijkerkwartier itself. When you check in, ask for some tips and the nice map that shows all the hotspots and “to-do's” in the neighborhood (also great fun for kids: the map of Bar Hotel Karel is the basis for a fun treasure hunt in the hood and there are even playgrounds indicated - they'll keep you entertained too).

Bar Hotel Karel? Then you will probably look for Karel... Wrong! Just like us ('Bart' is Maartje's nickname, right, a woman), the owner of the hotel is of the female variety: Karlijn is 25 years old and runs the business with enormous flair. She is happy to provide you with good tips of the 'eat, drink and do' caliber. There are four luxurious hotel rooms and, as the name suggests, a bar. A coffee bar, that is, where delicacies fly around your ears and the sweet cake beckons at you from afar from the display case. Cheesecake, cinnamon buns, cake... You want it all. And that with a tasty, well-brewed cup of Bocca coffee. Bam. 10 points.

Through the cozy (busy!) coffee bar you walk through a narrow alley to the courtyard; also the epicenter of all four (lovely) hotel rooms (cozy!). Just imagine how much fun it would be to rent the entire hotel with a few friends… But we digress. Back to the rooms themselves: one room is even more beautiful than the other. There are claw-foot baths (always bonus points), lounge sofas behind patio doors to the courtyard, steam showers and, well, just a very nice design in all the rooms. Each room has its own characteristic features, so first take a look at the site to see which room appeals to you most.

In any case, the courtyard is perfect for enjoying the sun (and oh so beautifully surrounded by tomato plants and other beautiful things).

Apart from the wonderful ambiance, the nice rooms and the nice neighborhood, we still have something to say: the breakfast is close to perfection. My goodness, if anything is done well by Karlijn + crew, it is the morning. Don't think that you will be served a mediocre slice of cheese and dry croissant... Are you crazy! Bee Hotel Bar Karel you will be served a truly luxurious meal in bed. At the agreed time, a delicious meal will be delivered to your door: yogurt with red fruit and granola, toast with scrambled eggs, cheese and avocado and to top it all off, freshly made (homemade!) cinnamon buns. Yes, we could hardly believe it either. Man oh man how delicious. Just let us know how you want your coffee (or tea, of course) and even that will be delivered to your bed. Pampering!

We could go on and on about that Karel, but we like it (a lot!).
