Yes indeed. We have a new 020-West favorite! Viscafe de Gouden Hoek is the name and it is located on the Limburg of Stirumplein. In a nutshell, it is delicious and very affordable fish and wines in a cozy, uncomplicated place with a hip but not too much sauce. Let's go back: Viscafe de Gouden Hoek can be found almost next to Piet de Gruyter's favorite eatery for every moment (and also next to bardot). The people behind that fave eatery, Piet's, provided this second fave spot on the same square; So Viscafe de Gouden Hoek. The inside is just like Piet but different: cool, intimate, long sofas, a bit 70's but thanks to copper, wood, white tiles, fish pictures and scale motifs a bit... fishier. Finally, that fish. Simple and for everyone, which was also the intention, but done very well, without greasy fish & chips in newspaper associations or using the cheapest, watery fish. No, we have chosen a menu that is not very extensive, but which does have the right and good ingredients to make fish accessible and affordable. There are a few things you shouldn't miss. The oysters, that goes without saying, are not the best ever, but they are certainly delicious. The Picpoul (a delicious and very affordable wine. A tip anyway: in doubt and put a picpoul on the menu? Always do it). Fish & chips in tempura batter (less than 10 euros, but a complete meal), the spicy variant, delicious.
