Why we all 'must' go to South Africa in 2021
What are we fan. South Africa, where the people are so friendly, the nature is indescribably beautiful and where the catering industry proves time and time again that they are simply the best.
With the current circumstances - no travel of course is the cred0 - we also want to see what is possible. Or when something is possible again. Travel enthusiasts as we are. Africa has as we speak (14-12-20) the color orange, only essential travel. And our RIVM also says that we really can't get on a plane yet... but making dreams for 2021 is allowed! Here's why we all have to go to South Africa in 2021 (or just as soon as we can again). Must? Okay, nothing is necessary. But yes, you want this.
- Support, support and more support (we can explain, but you get the point right?)
- This is the time to finally (after all that saving) afford that mega-expensive holiday. The prices are also a lot more attractive… Or… Well, you get the idea. It will be fine: this way you will have some tips left for all those very nice staff. Support the locals.
- Long stays it is. With the new situation in which we have hardly traveled or not at all, it makes a lot more sense to go on holiday for longer and finally you bucketlist. with this kind of stripping off.
- The most beautiful nature where there is more than enough space, where the air is cleaner than clean and where you can really recover from the past period. Something with a new round, new opportunities.
- Because South Africa scores at our number 1: most beautiful, nicest, most special holidays ever. When we pack our suitcases again and rush back home, we immediately get a strange gut feeling.
Something for everyone in South Africa. A paradise for the water sports enthusiasts among us. Climbing De Kogelberg to swimming with the flamingos in the Langebaan lagoon. Splash in the most beautiful spring pools to sleep under the most impressive starry skies. Everything is allowed and possible in South Africa. A country for sports enthusiasts, relaxers, adventurous people or just a little bit of everything. The combination it is.
And we already said it, now with these 'special' circumstances it makes much more sense to go on holiday for longer. After a visit to Cape Town, follow it up with a safari or a visit to Stellenbosch or one of the other wine regions. Preferably just both but ok. Because it is precisely the combination of the city, the beach, wildlife, nature and everything that comes with it is what makes South Africa so special. In what order? Our preference is: 1.) City. 2.) wine regions. 3.) Safari. From the hustle and bustle, more and more into nature and back home fully rested and full of love for everything, but with that gut feeling. Belongs.
Mooirivier, Cape Town. Like Cape Town on you wishlist then we give you no choice: stay at the charming Mooibaai. Sleeping in one of Mooibaai's cottages is a holiday as you imagine it in your dreams. Mooibaai is located in one of the most beautiful places on earth: the green Hout Bay in the Cape Peninsula. At the cradle of the Bed and Breakfast stood the Belgian Valérie. She fell in love with the place, in the middle of nature and at the same time close to good restaurants, an amazing beach and spectacular Cape Town. Read more? Books? Then take a look here.
Emily Moon River Lodge, Plettenberg Bay. Lodge Emily Moon is a beautiful gem on South Africa's beautiful Garden Route. Feel free to take a few days for your stay: the seaside resort of Plettenberg Bay is just as wonderful and versatile as Emily Moon herself! In fact, we can now say that we know South Africa, especially the Cape Town area, well and Plettenberg Bay is by far one of the most beautiful, most impressive regions here. Curious? Then take a look here.
And if you go to Plettenberg, then read more here.
Stellenbosch, the university city. The town formerly called Eikenstad, now Stellenbosch, is surrounded by vineyards and oak trees and is the oldest European settlement in South Africa. The fact that you can find many beautiful wineries here is not new news. We highly recommend a visit to Stellenbosch. The difference with Cape Town is so big, but it is also so close and that makes it fun. Stellenbosch University is famous, and for that reason - apart from the vineyards around the city - there is plenty to do in the town itself. A wine tour by bike is a must here.
Delaire Graff, Stellenbosch is an example of the many that exist in the area. About a 30 minute drive from Cape Town. Relax and de-stress, that's what you can do at Delaire Graff Lodges & Spa. A private one sun deck and access to the bar, private cinema, restaurant and techno gym on the wish list? Then Delaire Graff is your address. After the wine tasting you can book a massage in the beautiful and super luxurious spa. Read more about Stellenbosch and our tips here.
And speaking of the wine regions, Franschhoek is also nice. Here you will find Babylonstoren. This is one of the oldest Cape Dutch farms at the foot of Simonberg in the wine valley. Not only a beautiful hotel, but also a fruit-vegetable garden, good food, good wine (which is no different in this region).

Words are not enough to properly describe this place, the ultimate game lodge dream: Mhondoro resort in Parc Welgevonden. It is about a 3-hour drive from the city and is completely malaria-free. We thought it was a win-win. No private cars or asphalt roads here, just alone game drives with in safari vehicles. We like that. Because security is so high in the park, many rhinos (hello endangered species) have also been placed there. And that's going remarkably well, fortunately. Mhondoro resort, this is where you want to be. Read more here.
Unembeza in Hoedspruit. Believe us, you'll know right away upon arrival, you won't want to leave here. Enough choice of room types, all just as beautiful. So great, you can do a safari here by bike. Then relax by the pool and sit down for a lunch that you dream of at home. And to end the day well, you go during sun set into the lookout tower. You can book here.
Safari is expensive, but we can beat around the bush, it makes no sense. One place is more expensive than the other, that is always the case. Just imagine, you're going, you've saved up for this for a long time or you're just lucky, that could also be possible, but okay. If you go and you really really really want to go well. Even if it is for 1 night. Take a look at this site. Singita it is, bizarre. They won several awards for the most beautiful safari lodges ever.
