Inspiring hotel: Artist Residence, throughout England (including in Brighton)
If you don't already have Brighton on your sights: do it! You can get there by train from Victoria Station in London in an hour. The more than attractive and inspiring Artist Residence hotel translates Brighton into one building: creative and vintage plus above-average food and drinks.
The hotel is hidden behind a nineteenth-century facade overlooking Brighton's West Pier. The decor is industrial-cool meets artistic boho – just the way we like it. There is a Clubhouse and a real Caribbean-inspired cocktail Shack (recommended!) for breakfast and drinks. The hotel has 24 artist rooms, each of them decorated by a local artist, two below deck houses and one loft. In the Clubhouse, breakfast is à la carte and is full of fresh fruit options, homemade granola and all the breakfast classics. Not to be missed is the mini full English, which even won prizes (although it is not as 'mini' as the name suggests). Too late for breakfast? Then pop into the uncomplicated Billie's a little further and order the hash. An Unforgettable (Hangover) Breakfast.
Restaurant The Set found a home within Artist Residence for six years and served a so-called British tasting menu. Everything depends on the season and almost everything too pretty to eat. Michelin recommendation or not, the accessible Set Café is still preferred. Here you look out over the sea or on walls full of paintings of animals. The menu includes chicken nuggets with red cabbage ketchup, mac and cheese with crab and popcorn panna cotta with peanut butter. The Set continues at another location in Brighton, so as long as Artist Residence does not have a replacement yet, we will take a small city walk.
Artist Residence Brighton is by no means the only location of the group: it also has a hotel in London Cornwall, in Oxfordshire and Bristol. No fewer than three in the Cotswolds!
