Assaona Gastrobeach Club Palma, Mallorca
You can call us silly Pietje, no problem, but we (also) always enjoy staying in and around the capital whereever-we're-going-too. Also on Mallorca, yes, because Palma, the capital of the Spanish island, is simply fun. The beach bars in the area...? Meh, we might often find that a bit of a joke posh. And the music is too loud. Always. But not like that Assaona Gastrobeach Club Palma. Okay, okay, a little bit, but we're doing very well here.
And of course we have more nice hotspots on Mallorca.
Where at most clubs around the Bay of Palma – Purobeach, Nikki Beach, Anima Beach (no, no, no) – the champagne is always popping (too loud) and you lie on those artificial leather white(ish) beds (ew), is Assaona really something different. Nice, well-known boho atmosphere here, like the famous Spanish chiringuitos in Ibiza, so to speak, but which you rarely find in Mallorca. Rough wooden tables, swinging oversized basket lamps and straw-lined parasols – you know the ones.
Of course, the setting – that great spot on the edge of Portixol's sandy beach with sweeping views of the cathedral – hasn't changed. The food is good too: sashimi of baby turbot and Iberian pork loin, sea bass in a salt crust (jajaja), all served by staff in pressed desert-colored linen that matches the thick cushions on the sofas, the canvas tarpaulins, the Gervasoni sofas and the seagrass mats . Definitely approved. Also (very) good: here – heh – no booming music and plastic wine glasses.
