The hotspots of Mallorca – The Ultimate Mallorca List

The hotspots of Mallorca – The Ultimate Mallorca List

Mallorca is no longer an unknown travel destination. Logically: the Spanish island has everything our holiday heart desires and is at home in all markets: beautiful beaches, trendy restaurants, great chefs and beautiful hotels. Thanks to the diverse capital Palma de Mallorca, the many family beaches, small hidden coves, and idyllic villages like Deià, Sollér, and Valldemosa, it's a city break and beach holiday all rolled into one. Staying in Mallorca in one place is simply a waste: you can get the most out of the island by visiting at least the north, the west, the center, and of course Palma de Mallorca. So, rent a car (We think renting a car from DiscoverCars.com is great!) Or do you also have one? off the beaten track can you find a spot? Absolute!

Palma de Mallorca

Palma de Mallorca

For the best restaurants and bars, you should definitely head to the island's capital, Palma de Mallorca. Where? We have so many tips that we have dedicated a separate article to them, including tips for Santa Catalina, the most pleasant district of Palma de Mallorca.

Food Tours Balearics

Food Tours Balearics

Not a standard city tour or organized walking tour, but everything you want: good food, beautiful spots, and freedom. The people at Food Tours Balearics understand that. The Wine & Dine tour in Palma is a self-guided walking tour featuring four surprise dishes and a matching glass of wine or liquid gold. The route is guided via a web app, so you set the pace. Perfect for those who want to get to know the city, but in their own way, and with a full stomach, of course.

The tour is available in four different destinations on Mallorca: Sóller (nice to combine as a day trip with the Tren de Sóller), Pollença, Palma Santa Catalina, and Palma Old Town.

The East

The East

Café Parisien

Speaking of real favorites, in the east of bustling Mallorca Cafe Parisien. This café has a cozy and relaxed atmosphere, which is enhanced by the beautiful inner courtyard. Tip: at this favorite, you definitely must try the Mediterranean dishes; they are delicious. Hungry? Or just in the mood? They have fresh salads, delicious octopus, and the perfect Spanish alioli. You can also stop by for a good glass of wine, beer, or sangria. Prefer tea, a cappuccino, or a cup of coffee? They have that too. There is regular live music, and the friendly staff welcomes visitors all year round. If you want to experience good service, you have to go to this place, because it is top-notch.

Café Parisien

Es Bellveret

A favorite in the east is Es Bellveret near the towns of Manacor, Sant Llorenç and Artà. This cozy Mallorcan finca with green shutters is located on a plot of almost four hectares, so you won't have to worry about peeping neighbors. That will be skinny dipping in the pool and then dry and discolour without it so lines. Under the canopy you can sit outside in wicker chairs until the late hours, and rattan also appears inside here and there. Although the furnishings are not quite perfect, it doesn't matter much here and it still has its charm. The finca has two bedrooms and two bathrooms and can accommodate four people. You can book a stay at Es Bellveret via Airbnb.

Traveling with your credit card

Traveling with your credit card

Passport, phone charger, sunscreen: everyone knows the standard packing list. But the credit card is often forgotten, and that is a shame. Because it is indispensable, especially when traveling. You will want to take it with you to Mallorca as well. Whether it concerns booking a nice hotel (hotel Nobis Palma for example), pay a deposit at your accommodation, or make a last-minute upgrade. A credit card is convenient, because the amount is not debited directly from your bank account. And should something unexpected happen, a credit card offers extra security.

Are you going shopping in Palma or at Ca Na Tonet? Then you’d better have your credit card with you. Even if you have the latest debit card, with a credit card almost all your purchases are insured against loss, theft, and damage for 180 days. There you go, extra security during a busy weekend.

Tip: check the benefits of a credit card before you book!

The southwest coast

The southwest coast

Although the entire island is worth visiting, we simply have a limited number of vacation days and choices have to be made. Those who love small coves, a rugged coastline, and creative hospitality and shops should choose the southwest coast. Picturesque Deià is home to (among others) De Moniö, a lovely restaurant for breakfast and lunch. Villa Rullan, also in Deià, is a beautiful old villa transformed into a cocktail bar and bistro. Sipping your cocktail from the terrace, you have the very best view of the valley. For entertainment, head to Cafè sa Fonda nearby, the local bar that often features live music. Not fancy, not trendy, but definitely fun and wonderfully authentically Spanish. Something to celebrate? Then go dine at restaurant El Olivo in the Belmond Hotel, still in Deià. Nothing can beat the view here. A good alternative is the Barretes restaurant at the amazing hotel. Cas Xorc. Only the way there, up an exciting mountain pass, is an experience.

The southwest coast of Mallorca seems to have a patent for the most beautiful villages. Soller is not an unfamiliar place to many people. Relatively nNew and excellent in Sóller/Port de Sóller:

* Mister McCoy's island ices: ice creams with the most exotic flavors of the island, wines, cocktails.

* Coccum; coffee, brunch/lunch

* The Alameda shop; Coffee, brunch kids cafe

* Imperfectas Specialty Coffee

* Earth Core Matcha Bar & Gallerymega mega matcha

* Pueblo; the younger sister of the boys behind Patiki (Port de Soller)

* Bar Blai; to go is to stay put

Always good are Villa Luisa, George's (cocktails and small bites) and Ses Oliveres for the best paella!

Chez Junior; beach club goes restaurant, with beach shop. Chez Junior is housed in a beautifully restored Mallorcan mansion: gastronomy, music, and design. There are three uniquely decorated salons, and it is the perfect place for gentle afternoons with live, piano music, elegant jazz dinners, and atmospheric evenings to Latin American rhythms. At the boutique, you will find tableware, design objects, local products, and an exclusive selection of designer clothing, among other things.

Not much further is Valldemossa yet another idyllic zip code. Visiting the village is highly recommended, and while you are there, be sure to visit La Posada restaurant for an amazing view in an accessible restaurant. Hotel Mirabó de Valldemossa may be a little less accessible, but anyone who wants to treat themselves should definitely book a room there.

Be sure to visit one of the many markets; an oniontje. The favorite can be found on the other side of the island, in the village Santanyí. The narrow streets are lined with stalls at weekends and locals and tourists come en masse from the neighboring villages. A cozy, friendly atmosphere, with fresh fruit and vegetables, cheese and meats, beautiful flowers and local products. You can see which day the market is on the abcmallorca website.

Grape Jane:

Grape Jane:

Right in the middle of the road from Sóller to Port de Sóller (well, okay, a bit closer to the beach) lies Grape Jane's finca. Here you can book a Hike & Wine (sweat first, then drink wine) in the Sóller valley, or simply enjoy a wine tasting with Jane in her garden. Busy schedule? Then buy a bottle of island wine or 0% Sparkling from her own label. Unfortunately, there aren't many activities during the peak summer months (July/August), as Jane is cooling off in the Netherlands.

Stay tuned: Jane regularly organizes other fun activities. – Instagram: @grapejane_

Janneke's Favorites (Grape Jane)

Janneke's Favorites (Grape Jane)

* Hotel Corazon, for breakfast, lunch and dinner

* Demonïo; coffee and matcha

* On Wednesday; local market in Deia

* Restaurant Nama; Asian at its best

* Bar Miró; cocktails with a view

* SOLU; a small regenerative farm!

* Trobar; all the way on the other side, but a truly one-of-a-kind restaurant/shop with a rooftop terrace! Art at its finest.

Restaurant Neni is beautifully situated by the harbor.

* Nobis Hotel in Palma... oh so nice!

Northeast

Northeast

Towards the northeast, about fifteen kilometres from the beaches of Pollença and Alcudia, lies Campanet. There is not much to do in the village itself (wonderful!), so it is not yet overrun by tourists. Good for you, because therefore the chance that there is semi last minute one more room is available in it Finca Monnàber Vell quite large, even though this hotel only has fifteen rooms and suites.

The typical Mallorcan possesio has already served various functions. We will spare you the history, but what you surely want to know is that it has only improved since the hotel opened its doors in 1998. An old stable was converted into a restaurant, a swimming pool, spa and wellness building were added, and the gardens were given a make over. Although authentic elements have been retained, the interior also looks cozy and modern. Do you have the chance, Then book a junior suite with four-poster bed and jacuzzi.

If there are no more suites available, please check in with neighbor Monica. She is not the 'real' neighbor, but the reviews of her finca praise Monica and her fellow hostesses (and gentlemen) in addition to the finca itself (which is close to the aforementioned Monnàber Vell Agrotourism Hotel). The Monica's finca is located at the foot of the Tramuntana Mountains and a fifteen-minute drive from Inca, where you will find more activity and restaurants. Selva and Caimari, two less bustling but just as charming villages, are even closer. There is room for four people in the finca, the swimming pool and around the pool table. Then you have more than enough space and at least you don't have to worry about coming to blows with your traveling companions.

You can book the finca via Airbnb.

Central Mallorca

Central Mallorca

Osa Major

The Mallorcan mañana mañana is wonderful for the ultimate holiday feeling, although we like to see our accommodations in perfect order. As is the case with Brenda, the Dutch owner of Osa Major, An exceptionally wonderful holiday destination in the center of the island. "Center" often sounds like "nowhere near" or "phew, that's a long way to the beach," but nothing could be further from the truth: staying in such a central location is truly unique. Moreover, Mallorca is perfect for a short road trip. The rooms at Osa Major are beautiful, and if you'd like a light lunch, you can join Brenda for dinner. You can also spend days lounging by the wonderful pool and/or on your yoga mat: yoga has been an important part of Brenda's life long before it became uber-hip, and she's been organizing retreats on her island for years.

Mercat de Consell

Of course we prefer to eat, drink and sleep our way through Mallorca, but that is not very realistic. And so we swim, we stroll, and if possible, we visit a good one Mercat. The best one for interior hunters? Mercat de Consell, the largest flea market in Mallorca. Here you will find furniture from forgotten fincas, old records from a bygone era and other Mediterranean vintage treasures for your home. Okay, the location is not that attractive: in the middle of an unadorned industrial estate, the flea market is located just outside the center of Consell. But it's conveniently located right off the main road and you can't miss it!

The great thing about this flea market: in addition to some large professional sellers, there are also many private individuals who sell items from old fincas, offer antiques or are simply real flea market enthusiasts. And: haggling is allowed.

Consell Flea Market is located right next to the M13-A main road. From Palma take the MA-13 highway towards Inca, after Santa Maria del Camí the next exit to Consell. Follow the signs towards the village. The flea market is located just outside the center, right next to the road. Every Sunday from 06.30 a.m. to 14.00 p.m.

Restaurante Ca Na Toneta

If we were only allowed to describe ten addresses here, then restaurant would be on the list. Ca Na Tonet anyway. The restaurant in Caimari, a small, remote village – in the Tramuntana Mountains in the center of the island – has everything we love: it feels protected and intimate, even though you sit outside, in the middle of an ancient courtyard. The walls were painted with it quirky, colorful drawings that tell the history of the restaurant (once a monastery). The restaurant was founded in 2001 by two sisters, Maria and Teresa Solivellas, and is still run entirely by women (women with balls! No nonsense here) and there couldn't be more love for the seasonal organic dishes served here. be presented. In fact, only typical local dishes are served in front of you, spread over a seven-course menu and a handful of delicious appetizers. Even if you come twice a week, it is always different, so there is no point in retelling it, if I could have remembered it at all.

Beach tents

Beach tents

Top beach: Patiki Beach, Sóller

Few things scream the holiday feeling like a handsome beach bar. Patiki Beach Port de Sóller gets that. And Sóller, where you naturally also find the port of Sóller (duh) and, therefore, this beach bar. The whole place consists of three parts: inside, where it almost looks like a greengrocer's (of the right kind). The terrace, where the ultimate summer sets are set up, and the beach with sunbeds made of shotgun material. Do the math. And that prime location, too, because Sóller is one of the nicest spots on the Spanish island, I promise.

Terragust

Without comparing too much – Terragust deserves all the credit for its uniqueness – it is difficult not to notice the similarities with the famous Daylesford in the English Cotswolds, or any of the many tasteful wineries in South Africa. At Terragust you also shop in the sleek, light-wood store farm shop, and you can join us (check if you can make a reservation) for the regularly held dinners. If you do that, join one of those rural dinners, you will sit with your dining companions at long tables in the middle of the country where the ingredients of everything on your plate come from. A party, that much is certain.

Ca's Patró March

That picture on the cover of this book? So, that's another all-time favorite. Not going is not an option; we always come here. The simple (but excellent) fish restaurant is located in the small, fabulous rocky cove of Deià – the best spot for a refreshing dip anywhere, especially for anyone who doesn't like sand (I know those people exist). Once you arrive, there are two options: go to the right, where there's a more cafeteria-style restaurant, perfect for fries and a drink, and where people are sunbathing somewhat uncomfortably (though no one will ever admit that) on the rocks. Or go to the right, to the gem called Ca's Patró March. However, if you arrive around lunchtime and don't have a reservation, you'll have to plan a wait. In summer, you'll even be turned away without mercy – you've been warned.

Beach Club Gran Folies, Port d'Andratx

In an environment with a super beautiful view of the crystal clear turquoise waters of Cala Llamp, ligt Beach Club Gran FoliesThis club is one of the oldest and most exclusive beach clubs in Mallorca. A true paradise on the south coast of Mallorca. The beach club has a restaurant that serves delicious dishes from Mediterranean cuisine. But it is also a party here for cocktail lovers. Absolutely fantastic. like!

Bar Blau in Portocolom

In Portocolom, a small peninsula just above (favorite beaches) Cala Sa Nau and Cala Mitjana in the southeast of Mallorca, there are not one, not two, but three small-scale tents belonging to the same group: Bar Blau Portocolom, s'Arenal Chiringuito and Chiringuito Cala Marçal, all three of the people behind grupomarport.com. Expect a vacation from the books. And: Cove Sa Nau, as we said, has been one of our favourite little beaches in Mallorca for a long time

Ponderosa Beach, Playa de Can Picafort

Go for a beach bar like no other in Mallorca all the way to the north, to Ponderosa BeachHere you drive up to a grand establishment, constructed from poles bleached by the sun and sea and white canvases, bordering the wide and snow-white beach, Playa de Muro. Dining with your feet in the sand. Yes!

Cala Llombards (and more wonderful beaches)

Cala Llombards (and more wonderful beaches)

Llombards cove is a lovely small (and popular, too) beach (with an adjacent resort) on the south-east coast of Mallorca in the municipality of Santanyí. Popular, yes, but the place, and the neighboring village of Es Llombards, are relatively unknown to tourists.

Also nice:

Cala Pi   pretty pretty pretty picture perfect in the south of the island.

Illetas Playa – big and famous, but admittedly: it is and remains nice here.

Cala S'Almunia – If you are at Cala des Moro, take a quick turn to this one. Oh, and bring your water shoes, you'll be glad you did.
