Whatever you have in you, no matter how small your balcony or patio is, there is certainly a wall somewhere. Or some other secretion. Don't ignore it but use it as a smart basis. Hang a colorful carpet against it as a wall hanging (you can keep it nice and warm in your bedroom in winter). A woven hanging basket flat against the wall for a tropical effect always works well. In addition, your outdoor space will remain interesting up to the ceiling. Everything window? Then hang curtains on the outside. Simple.

If you really have a wall, it's best to step out of your comfort zone and paint the entire wall in a nice color. Brightens up the whole place immediately. And no, that's not a shame. The bohemian aesthetic was invented for the outdoors and anyone who doesn't throw in a little bit of joy de vivre and play it safe will never get the feeling for the baker. Richly colored textiles, woven furniture, plants, mood lighting – everything looks even better against a colored background. If you really prefer not to have a bright color, choose a matte black wall. Also works like a charm, especially when you supplement it with cushions and a rattan armchair. Perfect for a contemporary and cool feeling (instead of dark and gloomy).

If there is one thing that exudes the ultimate bohemian atmosphere, it is the hammock. Everything is good: even if you don't actually have a place, a folded hammock is a playful accent. Or opt for a hammock chair. There are plenty of beautiful cream-colored macrame options available (HK Living has a very nice one!), even in a double version (the dream).

Even better: temporarily (or forever of course) replace your chair, sofa or dining table corner that is behind the window with a hammock during the summer months. So inside, but directly behind the window. When the sun shines in, it's like being rocked in Bali. The homely embodiment of cool if you ask us. A few lush plants around it and some hanging lamps or lanterns and your ultimate relaxed summer look at home is ready.

Layers layers layers! And accessories. Always accessories. It's actually exactly the same as preparing your wardrobe for summer: even if you don't have the budget for a new dress, there's always room for a bracelet or a new sandal, right? This is how it works with your balcony: buy a few fresh cushions (think about your color palette), put a plaid over the seat of your old patio sofa and often put a new one away with a fresh bouquet of wild flowers. Instantly a different look. Simple furniture immediately looks fresh with bold linen, a lot of terracotta planters (don't cost a fortune in the garden centre) in a group together makes a great statement and a reasonable amount of cacti and ferns in every free spot give that feeling of outdoor living, even if your spot is still so small. Are you sitting right in the sun? Then try creating a bamboo ceiling. A good way to reduce heat without completely blocking out the summer sun. A large cloth of coarse lace also works very nicely.
