The barbecue essentials of 2023

Admittedly, this is a list that will keep growing. It doesn't matter, because in the end we are all better off. What list are you saying? Well: the complete barbecue supplies list. For at home, in the park or somewhere on the waterfront. Because we are tired of pulling those standard BBQ sausages and shaslicks from the supermarket refrigerator every time. It will be just as simple, only more original (and hopefully tastier) if you simply follow this list every time.

Could you use some inspiration in the kitchen anyway? Then take a look here Barts Cookbook.

First thing first: wine

First thing first: wine

We don't want to offend... But those wonderful summer temperatures are slowly coming back into our sights. This simply requires a nice list of fresh summer wines (don't worry, we will also include those from spring). As we said earlier (read also" these are our favorite wines for home use) we are certainly not wine connoisseurs, but we are good tasters. And so we have actually tried a few things again. Of which deed. So, you're welcome!

Check here our current list of delicious fresh barbecue-style wines. And here's the one before the best summer beers

Music on the side...

Music on the side...

You can tell us more, but a quiet barbecue has never made anyone happy, has it? Correct. And so you ensure that, wherever you put your hands, you always have a good playlist and a good speaker. to go in your bag. Look no further: the Sonos Roam is your best friend in anxious, er, barbecue times. Promise. That lies in a number of features: of course that brilliant sound (after all, we are talking about Sonos and those people don't do it for less), in the fact that the small speakers are extremely handy and you can therefore always have one in your bag. (or cool box). In fact number 2: thanks to the new colors (Sunset; a warm orange color, Olive; olive green, and Wave; soft gray-blue), your friends will really become jealous (sometimes quite nice). But - be careful - they are also splash-proof (quite handy since a glass of wine or a beer always gets knocked over during a barbecue) and you can operate them with your voice (also nice because a summer barbecue like this sometimes happens). culminating in a rather pleasant 'karaoke' evening without karaoke but with a handful of friends who want to belt out their favorite songs... Or is that just with us? Sonos roam

An apron on the front keeps you neat

An apron on the front keeps you neat

Maybe it's us… But we still think BBQing, even though it has nothing to do with whole hunks of meat anymore, is a cool affair. And so we actually think that a cool apron should be part of that, right? And then there is only one answer: Witloft aprons.

The people at Witloft know better than anyone what an apron like this must meet and we are fans. Buy one for yourself, your husband, uncle or grandfather. We think this is the best gift, because you can also have the aprons personalized. Chicory

Ps: the club also has perfect leather knife rollers. Just saying.

Horrible grilling

Horrible grilling

Leonie, the brain behind 'Just What a Student Eats in the Evening', just barbecued it off a bit. For a good cause, that is. Because all that barbecuing was because the creative (together with her partner in crime) wrote a horrible book, with horrible barbecue recipes, under the name (completely appropriate of course): Horrible Grilling. Fantastic!

That's what happens when two, as they say, food lovers are 'locked' in one house... Bring on those recipes Leonie, and we'll light a fire in that grill in the meantime. Another nice thing is that it is an e-book, nice and 2021 style, making it cheaper and even better for the environment than a physical book. Can't you accidentally set it on fire? handydandy and still idiot-proof also. Anyway, barbecue recipes, 34 pieces no less than. 50% vegetarian and 50% meat, for fair distribution. How about grilled pumpkin with pesto dressing and burrata, Whiskey can chicken with lemon mayo or stuffed peppers with shawarma? We hadn't thought of it ourselves, luckily that's where Leonie came into play. You go girl! (and boy)

Or... You just go and get something: in comes the better caterer

Or... You just go and get something: in comes the better caterer

Nice, such a cookbook. Real. But... There are so many amazing caterers who will lovingly do the preparatory work for you so that all you have to do is provide a hot grill (and an attentive eye so that your items don't burn).

In fact, there is always a top caterer nearby. We hope. We list some of the tastiest/best/most pleasant (also important) in the country: Barts Best of: caterers Netherlands

Only for home: The Green EGG

Only for home: The Green EGG

Okay, this may not be for everyone, but still: suppose you are a barbecue fan, or not (yet) but you like it, then invest in a Big Green EGG That doesn't even have to be a large size of the Big Green EGG; you have them in table model format and they also work like a charm. That sounds like a promotional talk, but it is anything but: a while ago (read: over a year) we voluntarily lived in a masterclass Big Green EGGing and then tasted, very simply, using exactly the same hamburger on one barbecue and one on the EGG, what the difference is. trust me: You hardly have to be a foodie to notice the difference. And then we were ruined forever. We had to and would do something like that. Now, a year later, we have our green Egg-like Friend. To say we are happy with it is an understatement: since it has been installed, we have done everything we can to it. Sausage here, (vegetarian) meatball there, pizzas go in and even when the family came for drinks it started on fire. We are not yet Big Green EGG superheroes, we are still coming. In the meantime, we simply pick up tips from fellow EGG fans The Lemon Kitchen

A good barbecue includes…beer. Precisely! Rather wine? Or alcohol free? Bart got you covered.

Barbecook Carlo

Barbecook Carlo

Which one is for everyone? For that, we're going to introduce you to this little friend called Carlo. Barbecook Carlo is a mini-sized grill that you can take anywhere. To the balcony, on the boat or to the park, you can move the barbecue anywhere you want (as long as it's actually allowed, just be careful!). You can also place the thing very comfortably in the middle of the table and turn it into a kind of summer gourmet. Eating from the grill together (Carlo is capable of doing his best for five people) is a party. No worries, happy is Carlo kid proof and little children's hands cannot burn themselves on the mini barbecue. Clever, such a clever idea to make a smart barbecue. We like it and especially that they also come in the most cheerfully colored variations.

A very important side note: Carlo is also dishwasher safe. No messing around, just hop into the dishwasher. At least if you have one at your disposal…

For the real grill masters

For the real grill masters

And when the stale ros is ready to be put to work and the coals are burning, then it is time for the grill master of the house to get to work. The real, seasoned and tough expert knows: you barbecue with an apron. Even a leather apron. Against all the sweltering dangers. Put on your apron and, bang, you immediately seem to know what you're doing. This one from Etapron, are, where possible, the rawest, most robust versions of their kind.

It's time for a tip: on Father's Day just around the corner this is of course the ultimate gift. We say: stock up on those aprons!

White Sangria with and also really tasty without alcohol!

White Sangria with and also really tasty without alcohol!

It doesn't get more summery than Sangria, does it? And we secretly think the white variant is a bit tastier and more barbecue-proof than the red variant.

Our recipe? We share with love:

Start with a large pitcher full of ice cubes

Add prosecco (alcohol-free is also possible!) until the jug is about 3/4 full

a little elderflower syrup (you can buy it at Crisp, among others)

possibly a shot of Gimber (ginger concentrate) for a little 'bite'

freshly squeezed oranges (2 or 3 pieces)

Licor 43 (or not if you make it alcohol-free)

blueberries (can also come from the freezer)

raspberries

strawberries

ENJOY

And then?

And then?

Then you go shopping. In any case, make sure you buy everything on this list, one by one, but you want it:

-Charcoal briquettes
-Firing cubes
-BBQ tongs to turn the meat (preferably no fork)
-Aluminum foil (but be careful not to use too much and too often: food that has come into contact with aluminum foil can be harmful, especially for small children's stomachs). Perfect for salmon or a baked potato.
-And if you really want to go all out/if nothing can go wrong: a party tent for when the weather suddenly turns bad
-Meat, really. Steak, chicken skewers, hamburgers, sausages, bacon... But just as tasty and much more original are items such as prawns, tuna and salmon, vegetable burgers, halloumi and falafel. -Don't forget the corn cobs, the zucchini (easy to grill in slices) and the pepper. And the salad (for example a pasta salad or couscous salad)
-French bread, equally indispensable, just like sauces (creme fraiche for everything, and especially for the baked potato)

The Mayo Sisters

The Mayo Sisters

Barbecue without tasty sauces is not a barbecue. The Mayo Sisters also think the same way. The story of the Amsterdam Mayo Sisters (who are really sisters) is almost as deliciously creamy as their sauces. The sisters' sauces are 100% vegetable and sugar-free, with pure and natural ingredients. Additionally, the sauces are gluten-free and lactose-free and do not contain any coloring or flavoring agents. Kudos!

Take for example the famous truffle mayo, which is made with real black truffle. Or the piri piri, which is made from a home-made spice blend, and the Aioli is also definitely worth tasting. Enjoy the sauces from The Mayo Sisters.

Curious about which recipes Bart recommends with these sauces? Read it here!

And then?

And then?

The most enjoyable barbecues are those that last all evening but seem to go by far too quickly. Nice people around you, surrounded by good food. A super important one key ingredient such a wonderful evening is marshmallows, or even better: s'mores! With a beer or wine in one hand and a skewer with a piece of bacon on it in the other, you can all hang over the fire together. Wait until it is a bit melted and warm (and yes, nine times out of ten it will be burnt, but okay) and presto, you have a tasty after dinner snack. Make it even tastier? It's possible! Sandwich your marshmallow together with a piece of chocolate between two biscuits and you have a real s'more. Easy but delicious!

To eat and to drink from

To eat and to drink from

Also indispensable to steal the show with your barbecue: make sure you have really good and durable plastic plates, glasses and cutlery. You will enjoy it for years to come and anyone who has it as standard will be happy every time that they made that one-off, rather expensive purchase. The glasses from the Belgian HappyGlass are really a great tip. Yes, we prefer to drink from a real glass, but necessity rules and these unbreakable glasses have, olé, the thinnest possible rim; the basis of good drinking, we believe. The Lady Abigail is our favorite. They also have good water glasses. And if we can recommend a picnic blanket, it would be this colorful one Moodcompany are? Made of wool, handmade and oh so durable (and forever beautiful). Tip: see how handy this handle is. Anyone who is a little handy can easily copy it.

And also when it comes to the picnic, we can put our love to good use one stop shop there is no hiding that MADE... Why should we? MADE, the must-visit interior design website, always responds perfectly to the seasons. And now that the barbecue season is here, it is inevitable that another good outdoor collection will be available soon.

Otherwise, just like us, just dive into the MADE shop: we scored beautiful (wine) glasses, the most beautiful coasters, kek cutlery and are now saving for the outdoor furniture...

Don't have a BBQ yet?

Then we have a nice tip from Flip: you can win your own BBQ if you participate in the Kikkoman BBQ recipe competition. In collaboration with Paulines Keuken, they are looking for the tastiest and most original recipe for your grill. So shake off those recipes and send them through this link along with a photo of you master BBQ dish. Lack of inspiration? Last year's winners included a salad with salmon and ginger, roasted red cabbage with labneh and a pulled Asian chicken flatbread. One thing is certain, reading these recipes certainly makes our mouths water.
