Just across the border: to Belgium with the kids

A visit to our southern neighbors never hurts anyone. We, down-to-earth Dutch, are having a great time among the Burgundian Belgians. Fine? Very good even! Not only us, but also the kids can join us - with peace of mind. There is more than enough to do. From climbing and sleeping in nature to visiting museums and cafes in the city. Where to go, you want to know? Our most favorite activities with kids in Belgium. You're welcome!

Speaking of Belgium... You can find more tips here!

We warn you in advance: after carrying out all these Belgian activities, it is time for food. We no longer leave the house without being well prepared and always equip the bag with the necessary items NaturNes Bio products. Such as squeeze bags for on the go and Nutripops as in betweensnack.

Antwerp

Antwerp

You will find our go to food, drink, shop, culture and interior design city. Of course we're talking about Antwerp. But did you also know that this city is great for and with kids? To fun and kid proof no shortage of activities. Here is a favorites list:

  • Boat! A trip by boat on the Scheldt is always a good idea. Nice and relaxing (sit and watch) plus the most beautiful view of the Antwerp harbor and Buenos Aires you have from the water. In the port you will find several shipping companies, such as: Jan Plezier en Shipping company Eureka, where you can book a (day) trip.
  • Watching animals in the city is possible in Antwerp. You will find it right next to the station ZOO Antwerp, one of the world's oldest zoos. Are you going to take a look at the flamingos or the fish in the aquarium?
  • Fancy an educational visit? Antwerp is bursting with fun museums for kids. Museum aan de Stroom (MAS has fun quests), FOMU (own activity box with assignments, questions and drawing booklet) and MHDK (family activities at Museum of Contemporary Art).

What (even more) to do with kids?

All that crafting, exploring, walking and viewing will almost make you hungry. Fortunately, Antwerp is perfect in that respect. This way you can go to one of these old fashioned tents. Looking for a nice place to sleep? You can easily dive into bed right in the center SHWAY apartments, Boutique Hotel Lit d'Art of Boho City Loft B&B.

Hiking + climbing

Hiking + climbing

Belgium is much more than just Antwerp, we know. How about nature? Forests in abundance. A long (or slightly shorter) walk every now and then can't hurt, right? Hoppa, put on your walking shoes and wear a scarf: time for some fresh air. Where should you be then? The Great Netewoud is highly recommended. Here you can choose from nine hiking trails for families. It too Drongengoedbos don't forget. This is the largest forest and nature reserve in East Flanders and great for (with) the kids. There is a real gnome path and a fairytale forest. And then Last but not least the Music Forest in Ronse. With gnome and witch walks and wooden toys.

Want to climb the trees like monkeys? Bee TheOutsider, this climbing forest in Goirle of Adventure Valley. Please note: these are courses for the (slightly) older kids.

Brussels

Brussels

Brussels. A beautiful city, which - quite unfairly - is more often than not skipped during our tour de Belgique. Time for change. It is the city where you can find a chocolatier or beer café on every corner, beautiful medieval buildings and (vintage) shops that make your heart beat faster. The hearts of the kids will also be conquered. How? Well, by visiting these places for a while. Easy.

  • Time to play. There are three (!) playgrounds in the King Baudouin Park, but the kids can also play at Museum Hallepoort. And we can't forget the Georges Henripark with a nice playground.
  • Love cartoon characters? Suske & Wiske come to life in it Stripmuseum.
  • Miniature park Mini Europe takes you on a journey throughout Europe.
  • Can't your child get enough of trains? A must visit is Train World, a – you guessed it – train museum. On the basis of an exciting treasure hunt you will look for the museum's treasure.

Fancy a delicious brunch or lunch? Nice recommendations DJO, CHYL, Woodpecker Family of Hinterland. More wonderful places in Brussels? Team Bart has got you covered. This is our do-it-all list. Would you like to stay a little longer than one day, we understand, and are you coincidentally looking for a place to sleep? Bee these Brussels hotels you and your child sleep like babies.

Treehouses

Treehouses

Spending the night in a tree house, who hasn't dreamed of it? Make your childhood dream come true in one of these awesome tree houses. When in In Belgium, you cannot miss these places to stay in the forest. Okay, we'll kick things off with the treehouse tree top. This super comfortable one hide away (plus hammock and sandbox) is surrounded by nature at Warredal recreation park, and suitable for 2-5 people. Another big favorite are the tree houses Treelodge. In the Antwerp Kempen you can choose from three luxury tree houses at this tree house village. In each wooden hut you will be nice and warm and comfortable, nothing primitive about it.

Ghent

Ghent

Ghent is super/mega/tremendous fun with kids. This Belgian city has plenty of entertainment in store for both parents and little ones. This way the children can 'The Sound Game' of the House of Alijn to carry out all kinds of assignments or look for a hidden treasure at the Ghent Belfry. You will also find child-friendly museums in Ghent. In museum The world of Kina learn everything about the plant and animal world. Want to learn more about art? Bee MSK Ghent is a voyage of discovery for kids to follow. Learning plus fun, a great combination!
