Facts and fables about organic flowers and why you should have the Bio-Bos from bloomon
Summer in 3.2.1.... The mood is good thanks to vitamin C, but how do we brighten up the house? With something that can easily be posted and preferably with a nice sustainable story, of course. That's where our friends come from bloomon look around the corner. Because the online florist bloomon has the Bio-bos with the European organic quality mark back in its range.
Bio wattus? This is a field bouquet consisting entirely of organic flowers from Dutch soil. The flowers are grown naturally, in the open ground and without the use of chemicals. And yes, there are quite a few misconceptions about organic flowers. That is why, together with bloomon, we will update you in this article about the most commonly heard myths and facts about organic flowers.
Fable.
Phew, we're very wrong there. There is indeed a difference between an organically grown bouquet and the 'standard' bouquets. An organic grower works closely with nature and does not use synthetic aids to make the flowers strong. Mother nature provides protection: no rubbish on your flowers, but ladybugs, for example, that protect against aphids. Any ladybugs (or other friends) left behind are removed manually so that you will not find uninvited guests among your flowers at home. No crop protection products at all then? Organic crop protection products are only used when really necessary.
fable.
Not everyone can claim to grow organic flowers. In fact, if flower growers want to grow organic flowers, they first have to 'switch' for about three years. Then you need to clear the soil of pesticides and other artificial substances. Until you have a living soil, full of small animals, bacteria and fungi. At bloomon, organic growers need the Skal quality mark to be able to call themselves organic growers. This quality mark is used throughout the EU for all organic products and can also be found in organic supermarkets and shops, for example.
Fact.
You now know that it takes some work before you can call yourself an organic grower. That's why it's nice: many organic growers grow near forests, orchards or nature reserves. And then you get cross-pollination – pollinating one plant with pollen from another plant. Very important for a healthy ecosystem. Why? Trees in the area attract birds that eat snails and insects and thus protect the flowers. On the other hand, the flowers attract pollinating insects that are good for nature conservation and fruit harvests. Circle around, nature happy, we happy.
Fable.
But then we just pick a flower in a park or along the road, right? think twice. Flowers that grow in the wild are usually not suitable for putting in a vase at home. Something with a risk of collapse. Which one should you have? At bloomon, for example, they know cut flowers better than anyone. That is why the Bio-bos consists of organic cut flowers. Some of the organic flowers are already planted in the autumn, so that they are strong enough in the spring to enjoy them in the vase at home for a longer period of time
And when bloomon does something with a sustainable character, they do it right. The packaging of the Bio-bos is also fully recyclable. The flowers are wrapped in paper made from residual rose waste and each Bio-bos is provided with a special flower card with information about the flowers. The paper of this card is made from tulip waste, you can even see the fibers of the tulip. After receipt, the recyclable packaging can simply be thrown straight into the paper bin.
Fact.
It's not a celebration all year round. To compress. Organic flowers depend on the weather and mother nature. When nature is in bloom, organic flowers are also available. That is why at bloomon you are only lucky in the summer and can obtain the Bio-bos. So run to the online store. Buuut, yes, fortunately there is a but, bloomon hopes to increase the supply of organic flowers by working together with a grower.
