Even in winter: you want to stay at the boutique hotel Can Sastre in Ibiza

Hand in your own bosom: it is not the first time that we say here that this is really really really really, is the nicest place to stay. In Ibiza in this case. But still... This is it. Real. Mark our words. Boutique hotel Can Sastre Ibiza is still an undiscovered pearl that, I'm guessing, will hardly be possible to visit in a few years because it's always full. How do we know that so definitively? Because Can Sastre Ibiza, a small-scale agriturismo actually, has that wonderful, perfectly balanced combination of looks and hospitality, delicious food and a location that is off the beaten track yet close to everything. Boutique hotel Can Sastre, remember that name.

Where to start? An almost impossible task when it comes to this dream place; I'm already tripping over my words. The Hague owners Bibi and Raymond (you can say Ray) of Can Sastre did not think so at all: the two ran a beach bar on the South Holland beach for years. After all these years, you know a thing or two about setting up and taking down (they did the job on the beach in 4 (FOUR!) days, from nothing but sand everywhere to ready to go beach tent). So when the deal was suddenly closed in Ibiza at the beginning of the summer, and they were able to take over a colorful hippie-style finca while the season had actually already started, they loaded two trucks, left for the island and completed the finca. 6 (SIX!) days rental ready: the white paint was still wet when the first guests arrived. After that, a lot of work was done at the 'back' and Can Sastra was exactly what it should be in the summer of 2019, the time of writing. And how.

A villa was built in the middle of the finca, perfect for a family as there are two bedrooms and a large communal area: nicer, bigger and more comfortable than our own home. To the right of that a huge sweet kitchen that the couple and their two beautiful kids use as a base, another two lovely rooms and, my favourite, a spacious suite for two with a comfortable, very spacious patio where you don't really want to leave. You don't have to: on request you can stay 'home' for lunch and dinner. Your own little house, alone in the world style, the good way. And in the meantime, of course, on the grounds of Can Sastre. Where in the morning you cross to the round swimming pool, surrounded by sunbeds, summer parasols and a small cozy bar and a nice large table. Here you can have breakfast and pour your own drinks for the rest of the day: it is also an honesty bar. Just check what you have packed and pay at the end of your stay. Child can do the laundry.

You should also know that the location of Can Sastre in Ibiza is perfect: in the middle of the island. Exactly where you want to be on an island-sized Ibiza. This way you can be anywhere within half an hour. Maximum half an hour. Whether you want to go north (aaah, the peace), west (hello Cala Gracioneta), to the east (hi Aguas Blancas) or to Ibiza Town, because that's always good. Within 7 minutes you are in the nicest village on the island, Santa Gertrudis – well, do we have to continue? And yet there is a good chance that you have never driven down the street of Can Sastre, part of the small village of Sant Mateu.

what else? Well, if you really want to know: we also fell head over heels for Bibi and Ray, the no bullshit Hagenese who have built up a beautiful place with hard work and good taste. And for their beautiful, sweet children who you see roaming around the grounds, together with dog Indie (then still a playful puppy) and a variety of cats. Quietly. Pleasant. Bibi and Ray know what hard work and not complaining mean, how to assess their guests ('know your Pappenheimers', important) so that they either leave you alone or join you for a chat. Moreover, the two know the island inside out and know exactly who to tip and when. That's great, so you almost (almost!) no longer need this site.

At the end of the day you sit down on one of the many seats in the little paradise, with a glass of cold rosé (a huge bell) and boiled edamame beans with coarse salt (Sal de Ibiza, of course). A good time to look forward to breakfast: the small but nice menu includes an acai bowl with candied fruits and nuts, beetroot juice (note: only bamboo straws: Can Sastre is as eco-friendly as possible) and toast with poached eggs, avocado and chili chips. Proven recipe, perfectly executed.

A prepared person for two: indicate a day in advance whether you want lunch (fresh bread, Iberico hams and manchego cheese, for example) or dinner and Ray will start cooking.

The very last point, then I really stop: bonus points for the delicious Meraki items in the rooms: even cleaning wipes for your face have been taken into account (I always forget to take those bitches with me).
