The Japanese instead of Haas & Popi (Strandeiland on Amsterdam's IJburg)
Beach Island they call it, the sandy plain on the water of IJburg that most resembles a beach in Amsterdam (although the beach of the Sloterplas is also really fun!). In the pavilion there, on the white sand, there were already a number of really nice catering establishments (Blijburg, Haas & Popi...), which have to close their doors every time (the reason for this will certainly be that it is mainly is a seasonal destination). Haas & Popi was the last occupier. They made way for De Japanner and although we are truly sorry that Haas & Popi is gone, we think De Japanner is a really good move in this location: a proven concept that is rarely available in the city. So there's a good chance that you'll soon find us drinking sake in IJburg!

The concept of De Japanner has also remained the same on IJburg: in the atmosphere of an authentic Japanese izakaya, or a pub where Japanese workers come after work for a snack, a drink and a chat. No bullshit, no hysterical prices – that work. And that's nice! Especially when the location spot-on is: sand and water all around you.
