This is why you want to go to Dryft Darocotan Island in the Philippines
Wow, we are already at part 3 of the (very extensive) Philippines series. Hello! And: welcome back. For three weeks now we have been sharing an enviable travel report about the... Philippines. In this part comes Dryft Darocotan Island on offer: a much too hip island with a real glamping site in the middle of nowhere. An idea - on a desert island - where you sip from coconuts or cocktail glasses all day long. Is the husband or that one friend is not yet convinced, let him/her/them read the following. Success guaranteed.
Oh Dryft. Heart eyes. Or as the Filipinos say: Drypt. We were confused for a moment but Dryft and Drypt – same thang. Dryft is truly a gem. On an island nearby El Nido is located on Darocotan Island. It seems the Harry Potter sequel does. Anyway, this island is, if we say correctly (let's just assume that for the sake of convenience), split into two. One part is inhabited by the local population and the other part is inhabited by Dryft staff and guests. You arrive at Dryft with a boat that sails once a day. The supply of food and drinks (we also think it is quite important) is also arranged with this boat. So it is nice and quiet there and no one can unexpectedly arrive on 'your' quiet beach. Well, Dryft is such a place where the song Children for Children comes to life. No one walks in front of you here. The motto is to live well. You don't need anything. Lies on your lazy haidewiets. Drinks cocktails with your butt exposed...

Dryft is a glamping site. Yes, also in the Philippines there is a real glamping. Many hotels and hostels in the Philippines have been discussed, but no bed could match our basket at Dryft. Huge thick mattress and the tents also look very nice. Fun fact: the locals were asked to provide the art and all the furniture was put together by the Dryft team. This team mainly consists of (very good looking!) English and Americans. That in itself is not very strange when you consider that Dryft was founded by a hip Londoner. The team is very contemporary but also very nice and they make you a good meal and strong cocktails with, of course, hip music in the background. Also something you really need if you are on a desert island.
Be forewarned: if you book Dryft, it will be a lot more expensive than another place in El Nido. Why? That must have something to do with the fact that the supply of the products is somewhat more difficult when Dryft is in the hands of that hip Londoner. Hive Huts were also placed next to the tents. The choice between the two sleeping quarters is going to be a difficult one.
What do you do at Dryft? Really nothing at all. Reading book. Sit down at the bar and the tastiest smoothies (morning) or cocktails (lunch too early?) are made there. Go on an adventure on the island. Swimming. Reading book. Oh, we already had that.
