If you are on one city trip think, you often think of places like Barcelona, London or Copenhagen. They are all nice places and absolutely recommended. But if you really want to enjoy those kinds of cities, you will soon spend quite a bit of money. A budget-friendly alternative? Gdansk in Poland. ''Hey, Ge-dansk? Never heard of it.'' That was our first reaction too. Call the bustling port city a pearl that has not yet been discovered, because it is certainly fun there.
The old centre of Gdansk is reminiscent of a mix of Copenhagen, Prague and Brussels in terms of architecture. It was striking that we did not know the city yet, but that this is a favourite holiday destination for the Poles. In summer, the streets of Gdansk are bustling from early morning until late at night. There are hundreds of stalls with nice souvenirs.
